Summary: Reports to the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief of Staff. The Director works closely with the laboratory management team and provides supervision to laboratory personnel. Will provide training for new hires to ensure that laboratory staff are familiar with procedures and protocols specific to the lab. Responsible for ensuring the production of accurate and timely data and analytics. The position is also responsible for preparing laboratory budgets and managing laboratory operations within established budgets. Our client is engaged in many dynamic, complex projects. The Lab Director will organize multiple simultaneous projects across a challenging variety of sample matrices. The position will lead project execution and provide technical supervision on customer and internal projects. The Lab Director will also serve as a technical expert on laboratory activities including, but not limited to, analysis, method development, method validation, and instrument maintenance. The position requires strong critical thinking skills, organization, and attention to detail.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise laboratory employees, including senior chemists and laboratory analysts
Conduct analytical laboratory investigations, experiments, and/or research activities, apply statistical techniques to validate methods, analyze testing data, and prepare laboratory certificates of analysis
Add internal standards, prepare quality control samples, and conduct other quality control functions
Ensure accurate review and timely reporting of analytical results
Complies with and supports the continuous improvement of the ISO 17025 Laboratory Management System
Perform system suitability checks, preventive maintenance, and calibration of analytical instrumentation including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, GC-TOF-MS, ICP-OES, and ICP-MS
Identify non-conformances, perform root cause analysis, and issue corrective actions
Ensure training and competency assessments are performed to maintain the competency of all laboratory personnel who conduct pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing
Prepare annual budgets for laboratory spending and provide routine updates and reports on performance against the budget
Plan laboratory resources and make recommendations for promotions, new hires, and disciplinary actions as needed

Position Qualifications:
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or a closely aligned field
7 years of experience with analytical instrumentation and methodology (preferably including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, GC-TOF, ICP-OES and/or ICP-MS)
7 years of experience with analytical chemistry analysis
3 years of experience in a management position within a laboratory
2 years of experience with analytical chemistry data review
Practical experience with sample prep techniques including but not limited to QuEChERS, dSPE, SPE, and liquid-liquid extraction
Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD in Analytical Chemistry
3 years of experience with mass spectrometry analysis
Familiarity with ISO 17025 requirements
Method development, validation, and troubleshooting expert
