The Biological Monitoring/Trace Elements (Metals) Department is looking for a Lab Assistant to work in our laboratory. The candidate will receive on-the-job training for the pre-analytical processing and preparation of patient samples in the Metals Laboratory. This laboratory is fast-paced and performs a variety of testing including analysis in urine, whole blood and serum/plasma for trace elements, heavy metals and lead (whole blood and filter paper patient samples). The Metals Lab Assistant spends the majority of the shift preparing and organizing the filter paper samples for testing.
Wednesday – Saturday, 10am – 8:30pm (2nd shift position – 10% differential)
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Complete clerical tasks.
- Scan bar codes and build work lists.
- Prepare filter paper punch samples.
- Prepare lab reagents, lab buffers and mobile phases.
- Complete routine cleaning tasks.
- Responsible for punch station tasks; sample sorting, storage and disposal; supply stocking of the line.
- Perform all duties accordingly to standard operating procedures and/or supervisory instructions including safety and quality standards.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Intermediate computer, typing and 10 key skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to work in a production environment to meet established turnaround times.
- Must be able to work individually as well as in a team setting.
