Job Requirements/Description: Technologist (Screening)
Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- MLT, MT or BS Degree or equivalent
- Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Work effectively in fast paced high volume environment
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Able to work independently under general supervision
- Must be able to regularly lift, carry, and rotate/turn with up to thirty pounds
Preferred Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- Prior initial drug testing experience is preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and loading and unloading of initial testing batches onto the screening instrumentation (i.e. Beckman Coulter AU5800) in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and supervisor guidance.
- Review and interpret initial testing results and all associated quality control, calibrations and instrument data.
- Perform any confirmatory specimen validity testing as needed, to include pH, creatinine, specific gravity and nitrites.
- Perform blood and urine alcohol testing by GC/HS.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory or instrument supplies and reagents. Notify appropriate personnel or supervisor of any shortages.
- Preparation of reagents and mixtures essential to the Screening department.
- Follow proper chemical waste disposal procedures, and handling of chemicals according to the safety manual and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) protocols.
- Understand and follow quality procedures and protocols for security and confidentiality.
- Follow chain of custody procedures with accuracy and consistency. Verify chain of custody and specimens received.
- Perform and record instrument and equipment maintenance and function checks.
- Understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures and protocols as directed.
- Understand and comply with all laboratory and safety policies.
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
About the Position:
- Scheduled Days: Tuesday – Saturday
- Scheduled Hours: 5 AM TO 1:30 PM, some overtime required
- The Screening Technologist works in a fast paced, production type environment. This employee will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, loading and unloading of initial testing batches of specimens onto the screening instrumentation for initial drug screening analysis. Performance of any confirmatory specimen validity testing and alcohol testing.
