Compensation: $27.40 - $41.10 (based on years of experience)
The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist serves as a General Supervisor for assigned sections of the laboratory. Duties include test performance and reporting of test results; maintaining work area including records, supplies and equipment; identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results; documenting all daily quality control, corrective actions, competency and proficiency testing; utilizing computer systems for instrument operation, data storage, data retrieval, and reporting of results. Serves as a resource and trainer for staff, responsible for technical and procedural aspects of assigned section. Assists Manager and Quality Assurance Tech with maintaining competency and proficiency of testing staff to meet CLIA requirements.
1. Will participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards Caregiver Handbook. To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, and embrace the principles contained within.
2. Serves as General Supervisor for section(s) of the main laboratory as assigned; oversees approved procedure manual for all procedures performed in assigned laboratory sections are followed, ensure staff adheres to procedures, policies, regulations. Responsible for reviewing, updating existing procedures, or creating new procedures due to new methodologies or instrumentation changes for testing.
3. Assists Manager to establish and oversee efficient and accurate work practices in assigned sections assuring timely and accurate reporting of test results; ensure that sections meet quality assurance goals for turnaround times, accuracy, and critical value reporting.
4. Maintains responsibility for the training and continued competency of testing staff in assigned sections; documents records of training and competency as required by CLIA regulations.
5. Monitors the accuracy of test performance within assigned section(s); establishing and overseeing daily operations of quality control and quality assurance programs; working proactively with others to troubleshoot and resolve instrument and test performance issues before patient care is affected; ensuring that equipment maintenance and repair is performed as required and downtime is minimized.
6. Proficiency in the use of the LIS and instrument computer systems; uses systems to achieve above responsibilities; serves as a resource for laboratory staff in the use of these systems.
7. Maintains responsibility for monitoring daily inventory levels and assists with inventory management and ordering of reagents.
8. Performs the duties of a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
1. Certificate from an accredited school and/or licensure for MLT, MLS, MT, ASCP or equivalent, required.
2. Three years of successful experience working in a medical laboratory required.
3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to complete BLS certification within 90 days of hire required.
1. Ability to work compatibly with physicians, patients, and other staff.
2. Able to problem solve instrumentation alerts, alarms, and malfunctions.
3. Knowledgeable about specimen integrity and quality to meet testing requirements.
