Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) is North America’s fifth largest privately-held waste and recycling company. LRS has grown from $50 million in sales and 220 employees in 2013 to over $425 million in sales and over 1900 employees at the end of 2021. LRS has experienced phenomenal M&A growth, with twenty-three acquisitions throughout the Midwest in 2021 after completing fourteen during the previous 5-years. LRS boasts 62 facilities located throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Arkansas, Kansas and Tennessee.

Position Summary

Lakeshore Recycling Systems is looking to fill a role of a Analyst/Associate, Mergers & Acquisitions to our growing M&A team. The Analyst will be responsible for research, financial and data analysis, creation of presentations, to successfully support the company’s operations and growth plans, including the pursuit of strategic business opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, alliances, joint ventures, and licensing agreements. The Analyst/Associate, M&A will support all M&A planning, financial modeling, and diligence gathering.

The individual reports directly to our Senior Associate of M&A and will be working closely with our M&A leadership through current and future M&A activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analyst facilitating initial diligence gathering and evaluation of potential M&A transactions
  • Manage all day to day financial modeling (Operating Models, DCFs, FCF, and IRR) and valuation exercises to determine acquisition viability
  • Prepare investment thesis/pitch by consolidating Quality of Earnings findings, marketplace research, and operational input to assist M&A leadership with Board Approval process
  • Assist with creation of all monthly M&A reporting packages and BoD Decks for M&A leadership and Executive Team
  • Support day to day needs of M&A Leadership and Integration Team
  • Ability to identify operational and financial impacts of acquisitions along with identifying risks and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support integration planning and execution with willingness to get involved if needed
  • Develop post-mortem tracking models to measure acquisitions results against expectations

Qualifications/Knowledge/Critical Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required in finance, accounting, or any related analytical field
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in buy side M&A role either in Corporate Development, Investment Banking, Private Equity, or similar financial services
  • Experience operating in fast paced and accelerated M&A lifecycle
  • Strong work ethic, with an effective combination of business acumen, sound decision making, and bias for action. Ability to act in a decisive, urgent and committed way to achieve results
  • Must draw from solid financial planning experience and business acumen to quickly understand, analyze, and address business results and issues
  • Effective verbal and written communication is essential for this role. Must have the ability to concisely/effectively communicate with manager and key constituents in formal and informal settings
  • Has capacity to work independently and manage time efficiently/effectively
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Approaches duties with intellectual curiosity and creativity to analyze the business and assess current/future opportunities and risks
  • Sees big picture implications pertaining to finance and beyond.
  • Solid understanding of key business principles
  • Strong analytic capability and propensity for continuous improvement
  • Ability to tactfully interact with all business stakeholders for requests and resolution of issues
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite particularly Excel and Power Point
  • Travel up to 10%
