PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Troubleshoot boiler equipment, dealkalizers system, air compressors, and fire sprinkler systems and make the necessary repairs.
  • Analyze and interpret the chemical composition of the boiler water.
  • Maintain accurate records of boiler operations.
  • Must know how to weld and use a cutting torch. Should have a thorough knowledge of pipe threading and welding. Should know the ratings for SCH 40 and SCH 80 pipe, both black and galvanized.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of all plant steam generation systems and equipment. Must know how to operate and service all steam heating units and steam water-heating units. Must know how to run all chemical tests necessary to operate the boiler.
  • Ability to keep all boilers operating as plant load dictates, monitor boilers, water levels, check water quantities of softeners and dealkalizers and equipment is working properly.
  • Ability to make necessary repairs in the boiler room as needed and maintain safety / efficiency of the boiler room.
  • Boiler operator will monitor doors and lights when plant is not in operations, also includes fire alarm system during shift.
  • Boiler operator will be assigned to work and assist in the cooker jams, repairs or adjustments.
  • Must possess a complete set of tools for mechanical maintenance.
  • Must be able to work independently on all equipment. Should require no supervision.
  • Must be familiar with standard boiler safety procedures, state laws governing boiler safety, and all company safety policies.
  • Back up to Chief Engineer for on call status.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES CONT:

  • Properly maintain / perform preventive maintenance on all heating ventilation and cooling equipment (HVAC).
  • All boiler operators will adhere to instructions from the assigned boiler chief in charge.
  • Boiler operators may be assigned work duties from their manager or chief in charge.
  • Boiler operators will monitor all air systems and vacuum systems where applicable and make necessary arrangements to maintain an adequate air supply and check for excess moisture in the system and bleed system if needed.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Adhere to all Lakeside Foods policies and procedures.
  • Notify supervisor immediately if any unsafe or potentially hazardous conditions are discovered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge:

  • Graduate from a certified boiler operator program is required. Must have a minimum of a Class B boiler license plus three to five year’s related experience and/or training.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
