Lakeview Clinic is hiring for a full-time phlebotomist position that supports our laboratory functions in a private, outpatient medical practice setting.
Position: Phlebotomist
Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt (40 Hours per week; 80 Hours per pay period)
Reports to: Laboratory Manager
Location: Waconia (primary), Norwood Young America, Watertown, Chaska
Positions Supervised: None
Job Summary:
This position supports the outpatient laboratory in a busy clinic setting. The phlebotomist will assist patients in performing venipuncture, blood collection, providing appropriate post-care of the phlebotomy site and preparing various specimen for analysis while maintaining a positive patient experience. The phlebotomist at Lakeview Clinic will perform specimen collection in a safe, accurate, and professional manner.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Retrieves and verifies patient collection data and patient special notations using appropriate sources.
- Cooperating with coworkers in the completion of assignments and sets priorities for specimen collection.
- Utilizing standard precautions, infection control, and proper isolation techniques.
· Must be flexible with schedule
· Must be adaptable to various types of locations such as satellite clinics.
· Prior clinic and/or hospital experience preferred
· Familiarity with lifespan growth and development, basic anatomy, physiology, and basic medical terminology
· Above average communication skills and strong attention to detail
· Above average customer service and patient care skills
· Proven ability to deal effectively with people in stressful situations
· Ability to work independently and in a team environment
· Ability to learn and utilize multiple computer systems
Required Qualifications:
· Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy, specimen handling, central processing or medical assisting is preferred.
· Graduation from an accredited phlebotomy or medical assisting program required.
· Completed phlebotomy externship.
· High School diploma or GED required.
Work Environment:
· Environmentally controlled laboratory environment
· Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations
· Frequent exposure to bodily fluids
· Possible exposure to infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a laboratory and medical office environment
· May wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves or a mask
· Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public
Physical Demands:
· Frequent standing, walking, bending, grasping, carrying, and speaking
· Occasional sitting, reaching, and stooping
· Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds, with assistance if needed
· Occasional use of computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine and phone
