What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Park Maintenance position at Lan-Oak Park District?
Under the direct supervision of the Park Foreman and the Superintendent of Parks & Maintenance, the primary duty of the seasonal staff is to perform semi-skilled labor in connection with the maintenance and development of the parks and their facilities. This position is not a housekeeping position. This position requires skills in lawn care and building repairs and maintenance. This job is a seasonal position from May to October. You must have experience with these duties to be considered for this position. This job will include weekdays and weekends. The hours for this job will typically be from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. but may include evening hours for special events.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to communicate with the stakeholder, park and facility users and to adequately represents the program operations and policies of the Lan-Oak Park District.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- A valid drivers license.
- Work hours will be constant for the most part but may change because of special events throughout the season.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform all tasks within the rules and guidelines of the districts safety program.
- Ability to perform duties in the light heavy work level, lifting up to at least fifty (50) pounds.
- Other physical movements of the job would include but not limited to stooping, climbing ladders, bending and walking on different levels of terrain.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and small power tools.
- Ability to read, write and see the job task being performed and there will be extended periods where standing and or sitting is required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
- The seasonal laborers will be exposed to weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold and rain.
- Activities performed indoors, the seasonal laborers will be exposed to normal building environment situation, i.e. lighting, temperature, etc.
- The seasonal laborers will also be exposed to various chemicals, i.e. fertilizers, weed killer, pool chemicals, cleaning agents and fuels.
DUTIES
- Responsible for performing a variety of tasks in grounds maintenance, beautification, and repairs to maintain the parks and facilities in a safe and clean condition.
- Carries out assigned duties as they relate to the general and specific maintenance of the parks i.e. raking and collection of leaves, paper, and rubbish
- Mowing parks with a hand or small power mower.
- Implement Lan-Oak Park District rules and regulations and personnel policies.
- Implement all facility and park safety procedures and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Park Foreman or the Superintendent of Parks & Maintenance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
- Due to regulations must be over 21 years of age.

Pay: $13.00 per hour
