What you'll need:
- Rostered leader in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, or one of its full communion partner denominations.
- Four (4) units of clinical pastoral education.
- Denominational Endorsement of Specialized Pastoral Care.
- Board Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains or approved equivalent certifying body, or Certification-eligible.
- Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 or able to obtain a medical or religious exemption
What you'll do:
- Meets with residents upon admission and thereafter to assess spiritual needs and to offer ongoing pastoral support and counsel. Visits residents upon transfer to hospitals and other health care centers.
- Plans, arranges for, and conducts regular and special worship experiences (including regular celebration of Holy Communion, and services for Advent, Lent, Holy Week, Thanksgiving, and Christmas). Recruits area residents’ clergy to share in worship leadership, devotions, and Bible study. Provides coverage for other Luthercare Chaplains as needed. Attends resident funerals/viewings, and conducts services as appropriate.
- Provides, or arranges for, spiritual care and support of residents and families of any faith tradition.
- Confers with medical and social service professionals on the progress of residents and contributes to the formulation of the interdisciplinary plan of care. Communicates any necessary adjustments to home pastors and families of the residents.
- Offers in-service training focused upon issues of spirituality and grief. Provides assistance/support to staff, families, and area clergy on issues of pastoral care and ethics.
- Participates as appropriate in relevant functions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, inclusive of the Lower Susquehanna Synod, Conferences of Pastors, chaplaincy networks and others as may be assigned or determined to be beneficial.
- In coordination with the Director of Church Relations & Pastoral Care presents the mission of Luthercare to various groups and provides information to increase community awareness and promote development. Supports open communication to ensure concerns of constituent congregations are addressed. Provide recommendations for improvement where possible.
