Sr. R&D Engineer

Sr. R&D Engineer Position Purpose: The primary responsibility of this position is to execute against key project initiatives and to study the sustainability landscape to develop strategies congruent with company goals. Participate in the development, maintenance, and cost optimization of sustainable and technical packaging solutions with an eye to the future acting as a mentor to other team members. Sr. Packaging Engineer Position Duties: Execute against key projects or initiatives across various Dairy Food’s platforms. Apply the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) rules to Land O’ Lake’s packaging. Study packaging legislation in the industry, analyze and communicate impact to Land O’ Lakes; adapt roadmap strategies as required. Support the sustainability reporting team to streamline reporting internally, to associations, and government agencies. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key suppliers and mine for technical solutions to meet key project savings or sustainability goals. Conduct front-end research/development on sustainable and/or innovative material alternatives that drive value to Land O’ Lakes. Responsible for all required specifications, documentation, package testing plans and plant trials. Provide mentorship and technical consult for packaging department engineers. Strong understanding and application of problem solving, performance specs, and material qualification processes. Develop ideas for savings, innovation, plant efficiency and quality improvements enabling business topline growth. Required Education/Experiences: BS degree in Packaging, Engineering, or related field - required 6 or more years of packaging engineering experience -required Microsoft Office applications - required Previous experience in food strongly - preferred Strong packaging sustainability experience - preferred Minitab, Life Cycle Analysis, and TOPS - preferred Competencies-Skills (Required): Excellent communication/influencing/interpersonal skills and ability to achieve accelerated timelines while maintaining cooperative working relationships across a large cross-functional network. Sense of urgency; proactive and result oriented. Passion for technical expertise and innovation with ability to identify new packaging ideas based on consumer/customer needs and insights. Strong analytical, data driven mindset, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills – ability to work through ambiguous situations independently. Manage multiple rapidly changing priorities, strong planning and organizational skills.
