About our Facility:
Our facility in Guilderland NY is a part of our Purina Animal Nutrition business, helping our network of local cooperatives, independent dealers, and large retailers to serve local and independent producers, hobby farms, champion racehorse trainers, and animal owners of all kinds throughout the Northeast. Through industry-leading R&D and committed partnerships, we innovate the nutrition products and practices that unlock the full potential of every animal for a healthier, more productive life.
The Guilderland facility is located at the Northeast Industrial Park in Guilderland Center NY, just west of Albany NY. The mill was built by Agway in 1964 and began producing animal feed in 1965, where it operated as an Agway facility until the early 2000’s and was eventually acquired by Land O’ Lakes in 2006. In the years since taking over, we have experienced tremendous and consistent year over year growth, more than tripling our manufacturing and sales volume in that time span. In 2020, we saw our biggest growth year yet, with tons sold increasing nearly 40% year over year.
The plant operates 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. Approximately 40 dedicated team members on 3 8-hour shifts work together to manufacture and deliver the highest quality nutritional feed products every day. Every day the plant receives in hundreds of tons of raw ingredients by truck and rail, consisting of mostly grain and grain-processing byproducts. Automated manufacturing systems then weigh and combine the ingredients to then be processed into pellets on two automated pelleting lines. From there, the pellets make their way to two state-of-the-art automated packaging lines, where they are packaged into 50lb bags, sewn, and stacked on pallets by our automated palletizer. The finished products are then stored in our warehouse before they are shipped to our customers. Our warehouse team picks and loads nearly 30 tractor-trailers full of feed every day to deliver to retail customers from northern Pennsylvania all the way up to Maine. Our feed has provided high quality nutrition to millions of local chickens, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, and more – including many of the champion race horses that run at the Saratoga track every year!
We additionally partner with local non-profits, farms, and the Albany United Way branch to give back to community, volunteering and donating to local charities and food pantries, and donating feed to local small farms and animal rescues.
