The Lansing Board of Water & Light has an opening for a Scheduler I in Lansing, MI
Job Type: Full-Time
Starting Salary Range: $62,100 - $74,000
Position Summary:
Responsible for producing a schedule each week for crews within Water and Electric Production Facilities as well as Central Maintenance and general Facility crews. Must coordinate and collaborate with multiple planners, outside resources, leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure a schedule of work is vetted and published each week. Responsible for ensuring coordination is managed between the multiple production resource crafts, vendors, and as well as other supporting resource groups to ensure alignment of schedules each week. Ensure solid reporting of scheduling and forecasting data. Preparation of scheduling metrics and key performance indicators to support analysis to ensure status verifications and quality reporting.

Essential Functions:
  • Builds out weekly schedule of work for all available Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrument Control resource crews within the Water and Electric Production facilities as well as all Central Maintenance and Facility resource crews.
  • Coordinates alignment of resources to the schedule once built out, properly sequencing all internal and external resources to jobs.
  • Monitors schedule progress to ensure proactive mediation of schedule risks in upcoming weeks.
  • Coordinates with planners and leadership to ensure work is being addressed based on priorities set by leadership to ensure overall risk is being reduced for company assets and facilities.
  • Assists planners and supervision with scheduling issues and concerns surrounding jobs on the schedule; collaborates with asset owners to gain approvals and verify priority statues to then communicate out changes.
  • Must facilitate meetings for multiple departments, to solidify work schedules, ensuring all coordination issues are mediated prior to scheduled work being locked down.
  • Builds out projected work schedules and resource calendars for management review.
  • Completes, maintains, and analyzes metrics, key performance indicators and other ad hoc reports.
  • Demonstrates positive problem solving and communication skills when interacting with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and perform strongly in a team environment.
  • Obtains progress, trends, and scope information from the appropriate stakeholders to support continuous improvement with scheduling processes.
  • Tracks deviations from the schedule, works with stakeholders to understand and adjust future scheduling to accommodate deviations or deferrals.
  • Tracks and builds out reporting to showcase trends, metrics, and key performance indicators for scheduled durations.
  • Prepares various management level reports and performs schedule analyses.
  • Utilizes creativity and initiative to develop, perform, and implement special assignments.
  • Provides continuous improvement recommendations, utilizing skills to recommend ways to close GAPs and create greater efficiencies.
  • Required to follow BWL safety manual and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Attends training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor.

Job Specifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Construction Management, Business, or other related field or combined education and experience equivalency.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in scheduling, project management, or work management, preferably in an industrial, construction, or utility industry.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and/or work management software. Ability and willingness to work extra hours when needed, while prioritizing workload.
  • Must demonstrate excellent problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Intermediate understanding and use of Microsoft Office Products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Planner, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to successfully interact with various stakeholders both internal and external at various leadership levels.
  • Proven success working collaboratively on teams.
  • Ability to plan and direct the work of others, organize, plan, and prioritize projects, identify problems, and propose and implement solutions, conduct group presentations, grasp, and communicate complex issues covering a wide range of disciplines.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to work various shifts if required.

Preferred:
  • Demonstrated history of team building skills and taking on new projects and technologies.
  • Utility industry and project or construction management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of scheduling and work management software.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the working day. The person in this position needs to move about inside the office environment. Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment. Ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen. Must communicate frequently with other departments and employees both verbally and in writing. May need to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and/or position the body to reach items on the floor/ below the knee level or reach above head. On occasion, may need to use stairs and visit plant and job site locations, will be exposed to uneven terrain and plant conditions during these visits.

Constantly works in a temperature-controlled office environment.

Must successfully complete a background check, a substance screening and a physical (if applicable).
