Job Summary : Core responsibilities of this position include :
The Adjunct Instructor, CDL Program position is part-time, non-benefited position responsible for program instruction, student support, safety, equipment inspection, and supporting the overall program operations.
Under the general direction of the Outreach and Workforce Development CDL Program Manager, the Instructor performs duties related to delivering the LCCC Non-Credit instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.
This position uses the standard curriculum and approved methodology to ensure student progress in both written coursework and practical driving skill;
while providing relearning opportunities through approved strategies as needed. This position requires a strong background and understanding of curriculum as well as superior training skills.
Also, calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work closely and without conflict with both internal and external customers.
Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.
Compensation : This is a Part-Time position. Starting hourly wage : $33.00.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions : this position is Non-Exempt, ., is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following :
- Prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences and ensuring student understanding of content.
- Ensure safe operation of vehicles at all times
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Prepare classroom and (off campus) range for class activities
- Ensure vehicles are in safe operating condition at all times
- Complete maintenance repair forms to CDL Program Manager
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Use relevant technology to support instruction
- Observe, evaluate and provide appropriate feedback on student's performance and development in accordance with established program benchmarks
- Prepare and update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, policies and school regulations
- Ensure safety protocols are followed and report safety concerns, incidents, and / or emergencies as required.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom and on the range by enforcing rules and procedures
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students and colleagues regarding student progress and student .
- Ensure program operates in accordance with policies and procedures, OSHA, FERPA, FMCSA, state law, and applicable rules and policies
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Considerable knowledge of CDL requirements, and pending legislative changes
- Knowledge of management, and adult learning theories and principles
- Professional Knowledge and ability within the discipline of assigned instruction
- Ability to work in an environment of collaboration, cooperation, sensitivity and confidentiality in working with the public, students, colleagues and staff in both the classroom and campus settings
- Ability to represent the college at appropriate meetings and planning sessions as they relate to the assigned area of responsibility
- Ability to operate commercial vehicles and equipment associated with the program
- Ability to work in an industrial and classroom environment
- Skill in applying the appropriate teaching techniques and methods in classroom and / or online instruction
- Ability teach course content that is consistent with the official course outline of record and use pertinent course materials at an appropriate level
- Ability to establish a professional student-instructor relationship conducive to learning and promote active involvement of students in learning activities
- Knowledge in application-based platforms for Android and iPhone devices and be comfortable with electronic log book and vehicle inspection reports
- Knowledgeable in communicating through emails with ability to add and / or save attachments
- Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (., a flow chart of a process). Ability to read, interpret and consider possible applications of business literature and legal documents
- Knowledge of basic office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer and associated peripherals, fax machine, and other electronic devices
- Ability to effectively and professionally execute the essential functions of this position with proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, communicating with courtesy and tact
- Ability to travel when necessary including travel to outreach / clinical sites and overnight travel for conferences
Physical / Mental Demands :
The essential functions of this position require the ability to work in an industrial setting including but not limited to working with / on with tractor / trailers, in confined spaces, electrical equipment, complex machines, and chemicals;
appropriate safety precautions, equipment, and procedures must be utilized at all times.
- Must be able to safely drive and operate commercial vehicles with a 10 and 13 speed manual transmission utilizing double clutching
- Exposure to potential hazardous materials, chemicals, and flammable materials; appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) must be utilized
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and weather conditions for extended periods of time; appropriate safety equipment and procedures must be utilized at all times
- Ability to follow OSHA and college safety practice regulations and procedures
- To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data;
documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position;
there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
- While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
- There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and / or students, past employees and / or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
- While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to squat, bend, twist, kneel, sit, stand, climb, and extend arms over head
- There may be multiple / daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and / or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
- An employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions.
For lifts beyond 50 pounds a team lift technique is required
Must provide a current US DOT Medical Certificate provided by a registered medical examiner though the FMCSA Clearinghouse system

Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
Minimum Qualifications :
- Highschool Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Three years of Class A CDL experience and be able to be insured by the College’s insurance.
- Must provide a current US DOT Medical Certificate
- Individual must be registered in the FMCSA Clearinghouse system and be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Applicant must provide a Motor Vehicle Record indicating that the applicant Commercial Status reflects Licensed
Preferred Qualifications :
- Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business, Management, Transportation Logistics, or a closely related field
- Licensed and ability to operate a manual 10 or 13 speed manual transmission
- Two years of instructional experience in a CDL training program or equivalent
- Possession of or willingness to obtain the following endorsements : Hazardous Materials, Double / Triples, and Tanker endorsement.
- Strong computer skills
- Experience in both local, and over-the-road driving
