This is a Temporary Position that will end at every Fall, Spring, and Summer semester and is contingent upon employee performance and the availability of grant funding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Student Mentor reports directly to the Undergraduate Research Coordinator and to the Undergraduate Research Assistant of the Title III: LEAPS Grant. The Research Student Mentor is to provide guidance and support to students participating in the URO research activities.

The Research Student Mentor reports directly to the Undergraduate Research Coordinator and to the Undergraduate Research Assistant of the Title III: LEAPS Grant. The Research Student Mentor is to provide guidance and support to students participating in the URO research activities.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow the college's policy on student conduct at all times.
- Assist students become familiar with URO and the research process at the community level. Mentor will work alongside the faculty mentor(s) and research students to organize and conduct student research projects.
- Assist students to prepare a research paper and presentation at required LEAPS events, including the Summer Bridge Program and URO Symposium.
- Provide additional information to reinforce concepts, assist students understand faculty mentor expectations, and guide students to appropriate supplemental material for undergraduate research projects.
- Maintain constant and effective communication with students, serving as a communication link between coordinators, faculty mentors and research students. The main form of communication is by student (employee) email.
- Adhere to a consistent and effective work schedule that provides availability to the schedule of faculty mentor(s) and assigned research students. Mentor must maintain scheduled hours as approved by their supervisor and will clock in/out on Time Clock Plus system, following their designated work schedule.
- Keep students informed of all required research activities, deadlines and LEAPS events.
- Attend all required trainings, student meetings, faculty office hours, faculty courses, and faculty research meetings.
- Assist in the evaluation and collection of data by submitting all required documentation: URO research sign-in/out sheets, Time and Effort Reports, weekly research reports, assignment progress/records, supply requests and etc. Mentor must maintain documentation while keeping students' confidentiality.
- Maintain a professional and respectful relationship with assigned research students, faculty mentors, and supervisors.
- Assist in the recruitment of STEM LEAPS and URO students by attending special events, class presentations, participating in the Summer Bridge Program and etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director, Undergraduate Research Coordinator, UR Assistant, and Administrative Secretary.

Required:
- Must have a 2.5 or higher overall GPA.
- Must be pursuing a degree in a STEM field and/or have some student undergraduate research experience.
- Instructor recommendations preferred. Member of a specific student organization preferred. Preference provided to former/current Laredo College LEAPS students.
