What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Larimer County?
The Larimer County Finance Department takes pride in providing a thoughtful approach to customer department needs while maintaining excellent standards in financial reporting and adhering to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Specifically, this position:
- Reconciles accounting transactions, balance sheet activities and prepares adjusting journal entries.
- Reads, interprets, and applies generally accepted accounting principles, governmental accounting standards, and federal and state grant reporting requirements, including Uniform Guidance.
- Collaborates with County departments on financial and accounting matters, including grant compliance and reporting.
- Maintains accounting files by reviewing and analyzing a variety of accounting transactions for accuracy and propriety. This includes monthly reviews of assigned funds.
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements and proving documentation for annual audits.
We are looking for a candidate that will:
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including preparing letters and reports for various audiences.
- Possess an intermediate level of knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including the use of basic formulas.
- Summarize and present complex information in an understandable manner.
- Take initiative in problem-solving and researching new or unusual issues and topics.
- Understand the importance of accurate and useful financial information.
- Provide outstanding customer service to other County departments.
- Successfully plan, manage, evaluate, and adjust multiple priorities.
- Look for ways to increase efficiencies and keep an open mind when presented with innovative ideas.
- Bachelor's degree with major coursework in accounting required.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience are required.
