The Larimer County Sheriff's Office has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Administrator. Join a highly-skilled Computer Services Department as we support the needs of the Sheriff's Office with excellent customer service and technical capability.
This position monitors and maintains all aspects of system administration in the enterprise including, but not limited to, communication systems (data networks and telephone systems), servers, enterprise backups, and network security systems. Ensures the day-to-day operation, installation, monitoring, and repair of the data systems, servers, and related systems. Experience in administration of network servers, edge switches, routers, terminal servers, telephone PBX, and pager systems. Maintains and updates system documentation and ensures procedures are executed properly and in a timely manner.- Responsibilities

Essential Functions
- Coordinates and assists in technical equipment (switches, routers, servers, radio equipment) installation, de-installation, and relocation services for both local and remote sites.
- Maintains and updates equipment inventory records, system problem records, system documentation, and operating procedure manuals.
- Performs "hands-on" work including, but not limited to, pulling cables, moving equipment, mounting gear, cleaning data centers, writing configurations, site surveys, and component repair.
- Performs technical equipment and system monitoring activities to ensure optimal performance.
- Assists with capacity planning and monitoring of enterprise system capacity and usage
- Creates and establishes enterprise backup strategies and performs data recovery as needed.
- Ensures that all back-end technical systems and related equipment are maintained in proper working order.
- Ensures that all system software is operational, maintained, and patched as appropriate.
- Evaluate system performance and troubleshoot problems.
- Assists in the integrity of data transmission to and from remote locations.
- Maintains current knowledge of technical innovations that coincide with County technology strategies.
- Assists the Senior System Administrators in designing and managing the enterprise network including wide area and local area networks.
- Performs equipment installations and relocation as required to support the business needs of the enterprise.
- Advises on capacity planning and strategies for leveraging current systems and future system enhancements and upgrades; assists in preparation of proposals and equipment specifications for purchase.
- Advises on system equipment purchases to ensure compatibility with existing systems and adherence with County hardware and software standards.
- Performs at or above the ITD performance standard.
- Fulfills departmental requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation, or education.
- Works closely with the network, server, database, and security subject matter experts to maintain the day-to-day operations of network servers, hardware, operating systems, security, and data protection.
- Generates, tunes, configures, and upgrades server operating systems.
- Develops scripts to automate common functions or system operations.
- Ensures that all distributed software and distributed software problems are solved in a timely and efficient manner with minimal impact on-field operations.
- Installs server operating system software; modifies and installs fixes to eliminate software problems and enhancements to maximize system effectiveness and efficiency; prepares necessary documentation.
- Provides 7x24 hour rotating on-call support.
Nonessential Functions
- When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of Commissioners, all Larimer County employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker.
- Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for the performance of the job.

- Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, in information technology, computer science, or related field required. Related education or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- One (1) year of experience in information systems and network technology, a directly related field, or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
- One (1) year of experience in network\server administration is preferred.
- Possess reliable transportation to be able to work in any County facility as needed and required.
Schedule:
Full-time position: Monday - Friday with a rotating on-call schedule.
