Job Description:
Join our team as a Senior GIS Project Manager within the Amtrak Digital Technology Department's expanding GIS Program. In this role, you'll take charge of crucial functions within the GIS program, ensuring seamless project management and successful implementation. Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Leading and overseeing one or more GIS software development and implementation projects autonomously.
- Directing project team members and external consultants/contractors effectively.
- Developing and maintaining all necessary project documentation, adhering to Amtrak's Project Lifecycle Management Plan (PLMP) framework.
- Facilitating project status meetings and providing regular updates to stakeholders.
- Generating weekly project status reports and actively managing project schedules using MS Enterprise Project Management (EPM) and MS Project.
- Identifying, documenting, and addressing project risks and issues promptly.
- Collaborating with team members and vendors to resolve pending issues.
- Presenting projects at Quality Gates and reporting schedule and budget variances.
- Potentially documenting business and functional requirements and driving testing efforts.
- Crafting Statements of Work (SOW) for Request for Proposals (RFP) and evaluating vendor responses.
Required Skillset:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of ten years' experience with hands-on project management, from initiation to implementation, using formal methodologies for software development and implementation projects.
- Proven ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives.
- Demonstrated expertise with the Esri GIS platform.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to address cross-functional technical issues.
- Excellent communication and writing skills, with the capacity to tailor messages to various audiences.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in both waterfall and agile methodologies.
- Familiarity with MS Project Office Professional, as well as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- PMP Certification.
Optional Skillset:
- Experience in the railroad industry.
- Familiarity with project management tools like MS Project Server (EPM) and JIRA, as well as iterative development methodologies, including the SAFe framework.
- SAFe certification.
