Overview: We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Non-Profit Controller to join our finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, ensuring compliance with non-profit accounting standards, and providing strategic financial guidance to the organization. This role requires strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of non-profit financial management, and the ability to work collaboratively with executive leadership and program managers.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management: Oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and accounting. Ensure accurate and timely financial information is available for decision-making.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, regulations, and laws, including GAAP for non-profits. Prepare and manage annual audits and IRS Form 990 filings.
Internal Controls: Develop and implement internal control policies and procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
Budgeting: Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic and strategic budgets. Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the executive team and board of directors. Provide insights and recommendations based on financial data.
Grant Management: Oversee the financial aspects of grant management, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance. Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of restricted funds.
Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the organization can meet its financial obligations. Develop cash flow forecasts and provide strategic recommendations.
Payroll and Benefits: Oversee payroll processing and benefits administration. Ensure compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations.
Team Leadership: Lead and develop the finance team, providing guidance, training, and performance management. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Strategic Planning: Participate in strategic planning initiatives, providing financial insights and recommendations to support the organization’s goals and mission.
Technology: Utilize financial management software and systems to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Stay current with technology trends and recommend improvements.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
5 years of experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 3 years in a non-profit organization.
Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting standards (GAAP) and regulations.
Proven experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and grant management.
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
High level of integrity and ethical standards.

Experience with donor management software is a plus.
