Description

Responsible for:
1. Instructing in didactics and/or skills/simulation courses as assigned.
2. Overseeing quality and consistency in the curriculum, instruction in class and clinical sites. Meet with Director regularly to report on status and discuss concerns.
3. Coordinating with Clinical Coordinator on assigned simulation and skills classes needed for lab practice.
4. Developing and updating course material including syllabi, course outlines, and evaluation instruments.
5. Evaluating textbooks and other instructional materials for each course taught.
6. Instructing classes assigned by Director of Nursing per schedule.
7. Providing students with course syllabi and outline on the first days of classes during the first week of the term.
8. Saving copies of completed phone lists for all classes in your public folder.
9. Grading tests, projects, and other assignments in a timely manner.
10. Evaluating students’ progress on a regular basis throughout the term with grades accurately reflecting students’ skills. Students not making acceptable progress should be offered tutoring by the designated instructor. Concerns regarding students’ progress should be addressed with the immediate instructor and/or Director of Nursing as appropriate.
11. Completing progress reports at mid-term per provided dates. All reports must be signed by the students.
Reports are to be forwarded to the Director of Nursing at the end of the term.
12. Maintaining daily attendance and grades in Canvas courses.
13. Entering final grades into Canvas at the end of each term.
14. Using Canvas and students devices to supplement courses.
15. Actively engaging in retention activities according to school policy.
16. Working with Director of Nursing and/or Campus Director, when necessary, to resolve student concerns.
17. Enforcing school attendance policy which includes tardy, as written.
18. Performing mid-semester clinical evaluations as assigned each semester.
19. Serving as a mentor to new and current students.
20. Adhering to and support school policies and procedures as referenced in the Employee Handbook and School Catalog.
21. Reporting off to the Director of Nursing prior to any absences and have a plan for affected classes.
22. Checking emails twice daily with appropriate follow-up.
23. Providing annual documentation of continuing professional growth.
24. Obtaining and maintaining any certifications, licenses, or degrees required to teach assigned courses.
25. Attending scheduled faculty in-services, and staff and faculty meetings.
26. Attending scheduled school events each semester (on or off site).
27. Reporting need for supplies and instructional materials using the appropriate requisition at least two weeks, preferably four, before items are needed.
28. Reporting to IT administrator, any computer equipment repair issues with a properly completed repair ticket.
29. Performing daily class maintenance. This includes erasing the boards, turning off the heat and computers, making sure the chairs are pushed in, and proper disposal of any trash lying around. Report any concerns, as appropriate.
30. Reporting building maintenance items timely and on the prescribed requisition. This includes burnt out light bulbs, broken chairs, damaged tables, and broken overhead projectors.
31. Performing end of the term procedures by preparing the assigned classroom(s) for the next term. This includes surveying classroom for necessary supplies, testing equipment, noting any maintenance issues (lights, carpeting, chairs, etc.) and following up, as appropriate.
32. Verifying textbooks and quantities prior to the start of a new term.
33. Participating in Employer Program Advisory Committee meetings, if requested.
34. Performing other duties as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications: Nursing instructors shall have one of the following groupings of 3 qualifications:
(1) Have a graduate degree with a major in Nursing; have a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and be enrolled in a graduate program within 1 year of employment.
(2) At least 3 years of direct patient care in Nursing.
(3) A West Virginia Registered and/or Pennsylvania Nurse License that is in good standing.
OR
(1) A baccalaureate degree with a major in Nursing.
(2) At least 10 years’ work experience in direct patient care which is acceptable to the Director.
(3) A West Virginia Registered and/or Pennsylvania Nurse License that is in good standing
