Area Coordinator Role:LU Area Coordinators provide direction and leadership to students, hall student staff, as well as programs and community development. Additionally, Area Coordinators are responsible for managing the hall environments as well as various administrative tasks. In conjunction with the traditional Area Coordinator responsibilities, there is a part-time liaison Position available within Student Life, which rounds out the full-time live-in position.Area Coordinator Role and Duties: Create/promote a community atmosphere which contributes to the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical well-being of each student.Cultivate this environment to be inclusive and actively educate members of the community to understand, embrace, and celebrate a diverse population. Be an active supportive team member of the Residential Education staff.Be an accessible, approachable and visible presence in your hall(s).Complete administrative paperwork/reports in a timely manner.Know emergency procedures and respond to crisis situations.Serve in an on-call duty rotation role.Participate in the Student Conduct process when appropriate.Assist with room changes, room consolidation, or room assignment processes.Select, train, and supervise Community Advisor (CA) staff. Directly responsible for holding staff accountable for their administrative and program requirements.Participate in a Collateral (1/4 time) assignment that would enhance experience in Student Life, allow for opportunities outside of Residential Education, including, but not limited to: First Year Experience, Career Services, Wellness and Mental Health Center, Student Programming. Direct management of the facility, including regular daily rounds, to ensure the environment is safe and clean. Work in collaboration with campus safety, facilities services, and custodial staff.Encourage programming which supports and augments the academic experience at Lawrence University.Create opportunities to engage with the entire hall community. Encourage feedback and suggestions via consistent and varied ways, i.e. hall council, hall forum, community comments, etc.Provide personal and academic support to students on an individual or group basis.Role model, encourage, and support students with their personal balance and wellness.Educate students regarding university policies and procedures. Conduct follow up meetings where you would address behavioral/policy concerns and then provide appropriate follow upServe as team member for CA or Area Coordinator training as well as continuous staff development opportunities.Serve as referral agents for students.Participate in weekly Residential Education staff meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with supervisor, conduct weekly CA staff meetings and regular one-on-one meetings with CA staff, and serve on university committees.Participate in an annual performance evaluation process.Undertake other responsibilities as assigned.WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:Regular contact with Lawrence students, parents, Student Life staff, and campus administrative offices. Occasional contact with faculty and alumni.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:Bachelor’s degree with strong interest in student personnel area. Related graduate education and experience desirable.Understanding and appreciation for a live-in experience and a residential campus population.Superior interpersonal and communication skills.Demonstrated administrative skills.Specific qualifications/experience/interest for at least one of the liaison assignments.
