What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Workflow Analyst position at LBL Careers?
Berkeley Lab’s (LBNL) Joint Genome Institute (JGI) has an opening for a Program Workflow Analyst to join their Project Management Office (PMO).
In this exciting role, you will be responsible for providing a diverse range of project management services for scientific and operational projects. This includes project tracking, problem resolution, and participating in strategic capacity planning and review. Reporting to the Project Workflow Manager Team Lead, you will work to identify process improvements, improve efficiencies, sequencing processes, and work-flow standardization including tracking and reviewing projects to ensure they are on time and within budget.
What You Will Do:
- Manage scientific and operational project tracking, problem resolution, and participate in strategic capacity planning.
- Identify project priorities and produce reports for JGI’s scientific program project managers and other stakeholders.
- Partner with managers and leads of specific JGI scientific and operations programs to improve processes, efficiencies and workflow.
- Collaborate with project teams, track the project review processes, and ensure projects meet deadlines and budget.
- Define standard products to streamline the sequencing processes and facilitate on-going development and understanding of JGI’s core products.
- Serve as the primary liaison for the JGI’s PMO to Laboratory Group Leads, and technicians on various scientific and operational projects/programs.
- Investigate, create, and develop new methods and techniques for project advancement.
- Develop and maintain streamlined reports for effective management of sequencing products.
What is Required:
- A Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent knowledge/training) in Operations or a related discipline and a minimum of 4 years of related experience in supporting complex programs, projects, and/or activities of large scope or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency using MS Excel including SQL, Tableau, and/or Smartsheet to analyze datasets, recognize trends in production operations, and manage project risks.
- Strong analytical skills including problem-solving with proven ability to identify, characterize, analyze, report, and implement solutions to complex issues.
- Strong experience with project management, coordination and tracking.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including experience organizing information and presenting to technical and non technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills including experience collaborating with a diverse team of technical and non-technical staff members both internal and external to the organization.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with various sequencing platforms and new sequencing technologies.
- Experience collaborating with scientists, operational staff, and/or government agencies.
- Professional Project Management certification or training.

- This is a full time, exempt from overtime pay (monthly paid), 2 year (benefits eligible) Term appointment with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of 5 years total or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs.
- This position has a targeted salary range of $82,200 - $102,720 per year for job code Z30.2. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, plus also aligned with the internal peer group.

- This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule - a combination of teleworking and performing work on site at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. Individuals working a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
