The Accountant in Accounts Payable (AP) will be responsible for completing and supporting enterprise payment activities to vendors and suppliers across organizational business divisions. This role requires a foundational understanding of accounting principles including assurance to enterprise and industry compliance standards with regard to payments protocol.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process scheduled and out-of-cycle electronic and check payment runs utilizing SAP for US and International disbursement banks accurately and timely
- Support departmental manager in handling bank and vendor relationships in a manner that cultivates strong partnerships
- Confirm control totals with disbursement banks and organizational Treasury team
- Support research on banking regulations/requirements for new countries where disbursements will be performed or where regulations/requirements have changed
- Support new disbursement account set-up, establish the payment process, and perform testing
- Complete monthly, quarterly and annual close responsibilities accurately and in accordance with the fiscal calendar
- Perform escheatment activities (stale dated check resolution) in coordination with internal customers and Tax Dept
- Perform daily positive pay review, process voided checks and electronic payment returns in SAP
- Compile and publish payment metrics, perform ad-hoc special projects and detailed analyses to offer insight and recommendations as needed
- Operate through a lens of continuous improvement; identify trends and propose solutions to gain efficiencies in payment processing
- Work with manager to ensure departmental goals are met and projects are completed timely and accurately
- 3 years minimum experience in accounting, accounts payable, finance or other related experience
- CPA or pursuing a CPA designation preferred
- Previous experience with SAP beneficial
- Strong PC skills. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Communicates in a highly effective and professional manner (verbal and written), interpreting sophisticated information and thoughtfully expressing their viewpoint through sound data analysis
- High attention to detail coupled with auditing and project management skills
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on functional accounting, controls and quality assurance
- Ability to complete tasks in an accurate and timely fashion while handling opposing priorities
- Cross-functional teammate, self-motivated, self-starting and a creative problem solver
- Conducts all work in an ethical, professional and confidential manner
- Ability and willingness to take on additional responsibilities
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Accounting or Finance
- Knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and SOX
- Knowledge of banking processes and terminology
