POSITION SUMMARY:
The ECMO Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating both clinical and operational programs for the ECMO program within the Respiratory Care Department. The ECMO Coordinator develops and coordinates staff competency programs as required by the department and TJC as well as providing educational support to other members of the health care community. In the organization and administration of staff and program development efforts, the ECMO Coordinator applies clinical , didactic, technological and other theories as appropriate. The ECMO Coordinator functions as an educational ,clinical, and technical advisor to the ECMO specialists, respiratory care personnel and all other members of the health care team.The ECMO Coordinator will evaluate, recommend and assist in the departmental acquisition of equipment and supplies for the program. The ECMO coordinator will assist with maintaining the Point of Care devices for Activated Clotting times and Blood Gas Machines per CAP regulations, included but not limited to staff competencies, surveys, calibrations, cuvette validation and correlations. The ECMO Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Respiratory Care.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education:
Minimum Required: A graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
Minimum Required: Must have five years of Respiratory Care Critical Care experience in the pediatric/perinatal area. Must have three years experience as an ECMO Specialist. Supervisory experience or demonstrated performance of managerial responsibilities.
License/Certification:
Minimum Required: Licensed in Respiratory Therapy in the State of Louisiana. Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification. Current PALS and NRP certification. Credentialed by the NBRC.
Preferred: Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS)
Special Skills/Training:
Minimum Required:
-Plan, lead, and conduct educational programs and seminars for various members of the healthcare team.
-Design and implement departmental monitors for various aspects of performance improvement and quality assurance.
-Ability to analyze data and apply critical thinking skills.
-Organizational skills necessary for implementation, maintenance, and design of departmental programs.
-Communication skills necessary to disseminate information effectively throughout the healthcare community.
-Problem solving skills.
-Ability to provide proper therapy to neonates, infants, toddlers, school age children, adolescents, and young adults. Must be proficient in all aspects of ECMO systems.
-Must be proficient in all Respiratory care, including equipment, therapies, disease processes
-Must be able to understand computer technology use, equipment and integration.
-Must be able to understand methods used to critically analyze data for the purpose of departmental performance improvement.
Preferred:
-Must be proficient in all aspects of ECMO systems
-Must be proficient in the use of Point of Care instruments for ACT monitoring and Blood gas monitoring
-Must understand blood banking as it relates to the ECMO Program
-Must understand the clinical and technical concepts of CVVH when incorporated into the ECMO system
