Position Summary
We have an opening for an EL Teacher. In this role, you will support students with language acquisition and literacy development through the use of EL instructional strategies. The role of the EL teacher includes direct/indirect instruction for students in grades K-12, consultation, caseload management, mentor training, and professional responsibilities.
This position is full time and is online.
Candidates must reside in one of the following approved states: AZ,AR, FL, ID, KS, OK, SD, TN, TX, or UT
Job Duties
- Assess ELs using placement, progress monitoring, and annual growth measures;
- Utilize assessments to diagnose students' instructional needs in order to develop and support reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills;
- Develop and implement English Language Development (ELD) Profiles for EL students;
- Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of the opportunities of English language learners, including support for SIOP strategies in the general education classroom;
- Daily targeted language and literacy development across content areas through the use of curriculum and supplementation in learning centers and/or online;
- Promote positive relationships between ELs, their families, and communities through regular communication;
- Provide quality, accurate, constructive, corrective, specific, and timely feedback to students that encourages them to perform at their highest level;
- Attend RTI, and other meetings in relation to the needs of EL learners;
- Testing duties include: CMAS, WAPT/WIDA Screener, ACCESS, other special services testing;
- Support EL Director to process paperwork for incoming EL students
- Small group intervention sessions for Newcomer and NEP EL students; and
- All other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Depth of knowledge in first and second language acquisition;
- Understanding of the cultural, social, and emotional characteristics and needs found in EL students;
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high energy, team environment and juggle multiple tasks;
- Strict attention to detail; and
- Achieve daily performance metrics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Masters degree in EL required
- Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (or equivalent) License
- Prior EL brick and mortar or virtual school experience required;
- Sheltered Observation Instruction Protocol (SIOP) training; and
- Ability to pass required background check.
- Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred
