Job Posting for FLOATING PRESCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT (#392) at LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER

8:45 am - 4:00 pm M, T, Th, F; 8:30-11:30 W. Working between elementary buildings.

 

Applicant will hold or be willing to get a para-educator certification.  Experience working with children.  4 yr or 2 yr college experience or paraeducator certification.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


  1. Assists with the general supervision of student activities as assigned.
  2. Assists with basic functional skills as needed which could include toileting, mobility, feeding, dressing,etc.
  3. Supervise guided or independent practice in the classroom or school community.
  4. Assists with maintaining an orderly and structured room for maximum learning.
  5. Provides individual assistance to students.
  6. Supervise small groups of students as needed.
  7. Circulate, answering questions, re-teach, reinforce concepts and provide assistance as requested.
  8. Assist in the delivery of planned behavior interventions (e.g. time out, etc.)
  9. Helps facilitate inclusion of students with disabilities into general education settings.
  10. Facilitate student’s active participation in cooperative learning groups.
  11. Utilize specific materials, following training, for small groups of students.
  12. Attend IEP or comprehensive planning team meeting(s) when invited or directed.
  13. Implement special systems, following training, to assist students with specific diagnosis (e.g. Autism, Tourettes, etc.)
  14. Maintain composure and model solution-finding in all situations.
  15. Operate special equipment as trained and directed (e.g.hearing aids, communication device, etc.)
  16. Assist students in using portable keyboards, computers, or other devices under direction of the teacher, speech and language pathologist, occupational therapist, or technology facilitator.
  17. Assist students in using wheelchair, stander or other mobility devices.
  18. Transfer, turn, lift or position students as directed by appropriate professional personnel (e.g. nurse, physical therapist).
  19. Maintains open communication with teacher/administrator.
  20. Implements lesson plans as directed by the teacher.
  21. Assists teachers in de-escalation of student behaviors.
  22. Carries out positive behavior management plans across multiple settings.
  23. Model, prompt and reinforce appropriate social behaviors throughout day.
  24. Provides frequent, positive feedback for students.
  25. Assists teachers in modeling appropriate social skills and behaviors in multiple settings.
  26. Supervise or assist students at recess.
  27. Facilitate appropriate social interactions among students.
  28. Assist arriving and departing students, by meeting busses or supervising entries, exits and grounds as needed.
  29. Assist teachers with communication with families as directed by the teacher.
  30. Complete all safety training as required.
  31. Perform other duties as assigned.
