Job Title: Correctional Student Support Specialist
Summary:
As a Correctional Student Support Specialist, you will complete general administrative duties, assist in helping Spanish and English-speaking students by providing transitional student support to prepare adult learners for career and post-secondary education.
We’re looking for an empathetic and dedicated individual who will assist justice-involved individuals overcome obstacles and transition into society. This individual will be in constant contact with currently and previously incarcerated men and women within Stanislaus County. An ideal candidate will preferably have previous experience in a justice-related field and be comfortable working with clients from various populations.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and nurture relationships with resource institutions to serve as points of contact for students.
- Collaborate with staffing agencies, rehabilitation facilities, clinics, and potential job providers to create opportunities for students.
- Conduct outreach and follow-up calls to support students transitioning out of custody.
- Engage with POM and PACT clients to facilitate their transition process.
- Schedule appointments based on the availability of Transition Specialists.
- Coordinate with students to ensure timely and effective support services.
- Input daily attendance and booking numbers into attendance rosters.
- Conduct data audits to ensure accuracy and completeness of records.
- Assist Transition Specialists in promptly entering data and reporting to the Lead Transition Specialist.
- Prepare monthly reports in collaboration with the Lead Transition Specialist.
- Generate certificates, letters of completion, and other necessary documentation for released students.
- Track student release dates and maintain updated records.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist students in resume building and job search appointments.
- Serve as a backup for Transition Specialist appointment.
Skills in:
- Microsoft Office: proficient in Word; Excel; PowerPoint
- Computer Literacy: Windows; use of internet; proficient typing skills
- Effective communication and active listening skills
Ability to:
- Work with customers of diverse backgrounds and personalities
- Work with minimal support and supervision
- Analyze, input and evaluate data
- Effectively communicate fluently in English and Spanish – verbal and written
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills
Schedule may be between the hours of 8:00 am – 4:30 pm M-Th.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree; and some administrative assistant work experience. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
Must be able to pass a background check and receive security clearance to enter the correctional facility.
