What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Lee, Hill and Associates?
We are working on behalf of a client company that is looking to fill the following role in Bala Cynwyd, PA.
Serial entrepreneurs are seeking a highly qualified Accounting and Finance Director for their multiple ventures. While this role is primarily focused on the Accounting/Finance leadership of the enterprise, some Operations responsibilities will fall under the oversight of this role.
The enterprise currently consists of four high-growth international services businesses with a combined staff of 100 . With positive cash flow generated by the businesses, the owners are re-investing in growth and continuing to support the businesses with opportunistic tuck-in acquisitions. Additionally, new lines of service business will likely be added to the portfolio in the next few years.
Although the businesses are geographically diverse, including one headquartered in the UK, the accounting for all is performed centrally in the US. Given the very lean staffing (four staff positions presently) of the accounting function and the high growth of the businesses, the time has come to add an experienced individual who will function as the head of the finance and accounting function for the entire organization. This position will also be responsible for HR, Risk Management, and Facilities and have a significant role in Legal.
The person hired for this role will be responsible for:
· Ensuring the proper day-to-day functioning of the accounting department including assessing current systems and processes and making recommendations for improvements as needed.
· Developing reporting and analyses that help the owners focus on key metrics.
· Planning and forecasting to ensure the business can readily anticipate changing needs, including staffing and cash flows.
· Ensuring that a corporate culture of quality is developed and embedded throughout the businesses.
· Ensuring that the functional areas under his/her oversight can scale to support the rapidly changing needs of a portfolio of high-growth businesses.
· Hiring and developing a high-performing team.
· Working cross-functionally to support other leaders in the businesses.
· Identifying and assisting in addressing business issues, such as opportunities for improving margins or cash flow, suggesting and, when appropriate, implementing changes.
· Identifying appropriate risk management practices and products and leading the efforts to ensure they are in place when and where needed.
· Ensuring appropriate employee benefits plans are in place and are acquired at competitive rates.
· Working with the owners to smoothly integrate acquisitions.
· Able to advise the owners on options to raise capital to support ongoing growth.
Attributes and experience that will be critical for a successful Controller include:
· Self-starter who has the experience to know what needs to be done and the tenacity to personally engage to get it done.
· Ability to work in a very leanly staffed organization.
· Knowledge to build appropriate internal controls throughout the company’s systems and processes.
· Experience with international businesses and accounting practices.
· Excellent communication skills and a willingness to have open and honest conversations.
· An ability to work effectively and efficiently remotely with a wide variety of people.
· A high degree of integrity.
· CPA designation is preferred.
· Experience with mergers and acquisitions is strongly desired.
