The Claims Team Lead will effectively manage Claims Assistants to ensure appropriate processing of all live rescissions is accurate, timely and meets all states requirements. Monitor and manage work while improving efficiencies and managing expenses.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that the daily operations in the Claims Department are processed within the pre-defined standards for quality by performing quality control audits. Manage Claim Assistants to ensure live rescissions are handled appropriately.
- Review and counsel assistants regarding expectations, standards, productivity, quality, absenteeism and other guidelines/procedures. Provide feedback and additional training to staff as needed and document staff performance.
- Responsible for daily quality control review of policy rescissions and communication work product. Document findings and review problematic issues with Director.
- Manage performance of assistants, including writing and administering annual and mid-year performance evaluations, which include productivity, quality, attendance, tardiness and all other pertinent measurable categories.
- Assist staff with special projects/phone calls and handle when necessary to ensure proper resolution. Provide coaching to staff on special projects/escalated calls.
- Develop and mentor staff to grow department and industry knowledge.
- Liaise with Legal and outside counsel to ensure litigation associated with rescissions is managed appropriately. Provide all claims information to ensure a timely and positive outcome.
- Work with Legal/Compliance areas to develop and maintain procedures and processes to ensure 100% compliance with all state and other regulatory entities.
- Collaborate with Underwriting Audit to ensure appropriate review has occurred, evidence and approvals are documented, and escalate any appeals in a timely manner, as required.
- Provide ongoing validation of systems and new technology, and workflow to ensure all processes are functioning correctly and appointments and policy contracts are 100% accurate. Identify any system weaknesses and define options to remedy with management. Work with IT to test and implement all system modifications.
- Work with Claim Assistants and through personal production, to resolve Live Rescissions
- Knowledgeable of rescission processing and able to analyze uncommon issues by utilizing extensive experience and background.
- Identify, analyze and interpret pertinent facts and information to assure appropriate handling.
- Review progress and status of rescissions with management and discuss problems and suggested solutions.
- Prepare case files for review by management.
- Manage customer resolution as appropriate.
- Assist with preparation of file for legal review.
- Participate in depositions/court proceedings as needed.
- Correspond and communicate with insureds, attorneys, agents, and other departments within the company to resolve or discuss matters relevant to effective rescission handling.
- Inform insureds or their legal representative of denial of reinstatement when applicable.
- Keep abreast of claims and related legal principles and ensure compliance.
- Keep abreast of underwriting rules and principles related to claims administration.
- Review and approve daily disbursement activity resulting from rescission processing for accuracy.
- Complete all other projects, tasks, and reporting needs as assigned by management to support the Claims organization.
- Assist in other duties of claims reporting and compliance as requested.
Qualifications
Education
2 years of college preferred or equivalent work experienceLOMA courses; ACS designation.
ALMI preferred and ALHC preferred
Experience/Knowledge
5 years general life insurance experience.
3 years life claims experience.1 years supervisory experience.
Advanced knowledge of insurance contracts and claims standards and procedures.
Proficient in understanding contract language and provisions

What’s in it for you?
The expected hiring compensation range for this position is $65,600 - $87,800 annually.
The total compensation package for this position may include other elements, such as a sign-on bonus, long term incentives, and annual bonuses. This role is eligible to participate in the Legal & General America Annual Incentive Plan. The current target payment for the position is 3% of base salary, modified for corporate and individual performance. Bonuses are pro-rated based on start date. This role has 10 vacation days and 10 sick days that are accrued on a bi-weekly basis. Employees also have 9 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
