NEIGHBORHOOD VACANCY INITIATIVE (NVI)
Overview:
Legal Services of Eastern Missouri is seeking a dependable and highly organized individual with a demonstrated commitment to social justice to fill a full time office manager and legal assistant position within its Neighborhood Vacancy Initiative.
The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, affable, and committed to community service.
Responsibilities and Examples of Duties
The office manager and legal assistant will be the first contact for the NVI hotline and requires conveying dignity and sensitivity to applicants for service while answering incoming calls, responding to electronic applications, or working with walk-in requests for assistance. In this capacity the assistant will respond to requests from prospective clients and conduct a screening to determine financial eligibility and other criteria for service. The position will serve as a source of client information, support and advocacy and provide clients and potential clients with community resources and referrals as needed.
The position will also provide support to the Neighborhood Vacancy Initiative attorneys and paralegals by coordinating office supply needs and will maintain office manuals, equipment, records, files and databases. The position will also provide organizational support to the team by assisting with case file opening/closing and management including entering and verifying data in the firms’ case management software. The assistant will also aid with organizing, scheduling, and calendaring court appearances and meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred

- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office and able to quickly learn new systems
- Familiarity with case management software preferred
- Open to creative and innovative ways of fulfilling the legal aid mission
- Must have own transportation and be able to drive to court and to meet with clients across the St. Louis area.
Salary and Benefits Information:
Salary range for this position is $32,000-48,000, commensurate with experience.
