EXPEREINCED ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN
PRIMARY FUNCTION
To inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust and maintain all electrical equipment, instrumentation, Level 1 through Level 3 control, Level 4 hardware, and power transmission lines, throughout the plant. Makes mechanical repairs to cranes and as otherwise required in connection with electric service. Participates in job planning, inspection, and PM development activities. Performs flat, vertical, and overhead welding.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Drill press, power saw, chain fall, burning equipment, electric welder, Portable drill and grinder, safety devices, electrical testing equipment, electronic testing equipment, pipe threading machine, pipe bender, hand tools, cranes, tractors, and mobile equipment, etc.
SOURCE OF SUPERVISION
Maintenance supervisor for working schedule and job assignments. Performs work with a minimum of direction, receives instruction at start of ordinary work - No supervision on simple work -Checked periodically on major repair jobs.
DIRECTION EXERCISED
Works alone or provides direction to other Maintenance Department personal as required.
Provides direction to Operations Department personal when assisting repairs.
Responsible for self-assignment of productive work throughout the shift with or without input of management.
Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformity related to product, process, and the system.
Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process and the quality system.
Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
Verify the implementation of solutions.
Control further processing, delivery or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Follows all applicable Safe Job Practices (SJP) including required Personal Protective Equipment and strict compliance with Lock Out/ Tag Out procedures.
Performs housekeeping in areas of repair work and in shops.
Receives instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work required for any task to be performed.
Inspects all electrical equipment, power lines, electronic equipment, checking motor bearings lubrication, commutation, excessive vibration, obvious signs of wear or need for adjustment, etc.
Trouble shoots and decides course of repairs required.
When faulty operation is observed or pointed out by operating crews, diagnose trouble using testing equipment or own judgment based on general knowledge of electrical principles.
Determines the best way to make repairs to minimize interruption of production.
Advises when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect.
Interprets and analyzes drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and trace electrical circuits, and evaluates programming to determine material and replacement needs, and selects a logical approach to "trouble shooting" and repair problems.
Dismantles, cleans, repairs, replaces, installs, maintains, assembles, lubricates electrical equipment taking all safety precautions.
Adjusts equipment to obtain proper operating characteristics.
Makes either temporary or permanent repairs as required to equipment such as main motor devices, generators, control panels, relays, interlocking cranes. control systems, electronic devices, and circuit breakers.
Makes mechanical and electrical repairs on cranes.
Makes mechanical repairs as required in connection with the servicing of electrical equipment.
Makes accurate reports and records for the CMMS system for equipment history.
Fills out and maintains work orders and purchase orders for required materials, supplies, and equipment; maintains daily activity logs, maintenance records concerning assigned service vehicle and equipment.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates machine tools, such as drill press, power saw, etc.
Operates cranes and mobile equipment.
Erects scaffolds, performs welding and burning, and performs rigging as required.
Performs Electrician activities as required.
