What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operations Director position at Leggett & Platt?

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for an Operations Director within our Automotive team to help support our business. Did you know we are the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of seating support and comfort systems for transportation manufacturers, as well as tier one and two suppliers within the automotive industry? Our automotive products fall into four primary groups: Seating and Lumbar support, Wireless Charging, Motors and Actuators, and Mechanical Cables. As an Operations Director you will have the opportunity to manage the operations of three of our automotive branches. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by strategically driving growth and owning the overall product roadmap. The team you will be working with is hardworking, and values collaboration with all team members.


So, what will you be doing as an Operations Director?

  • Maintain responsibility for global operational P&L for the product group
  • Work directly with Branch Managers to oversee and deliver on operating plan as defined by operational product and manufacturing excellence strategy
  • Prepare business cases for capital spent targeted to optimize asset utilization, leverage open capacity globally to maximize capital and facility utilization
  • Develop plans to increase efficiency and reduce costs in order to deliver on committed operational CI plans
  • Share best practices on implementation and cost operational across global product line
  • Provide regional operational cover for exceptions management
  • Define goals for Branch Managers as aligned to manufacturing strategy, talent management, and succession planning. Provide regular coaching, mentoring, and feedback
  • Ensure inventory levels are accurate and managed/maintained
  • Ensure process adherence as outlined in GOM across Global Product Group
  • Lead a safety first approach maintaining zero accident culture


To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Master Degree in Business, Economics, Manufacturing, Engineering, or other quantitative degree
  • Minimum 10 years experience of strong business experience
  • Automotive industry experience
  • Business acumen with proven track record and expertise
  • Excellent analytical skills with experience rapidly building and analyzing business plans
  • Expert project management skills with track record of managing multiple projects and driving results
  • Proven ability to build relationships, influence decisions, and drive results through internal partnerships
  • Strong positive / can-do attitude and comfort interacting with all levels of an organization
  • Proactive problem solving skills
  • Willingness to travel, domestic and international
