We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a(n) Project Manager at our Sparta, MI location to help support our Work Furniture business. In our Work Furniture Components business, we design, manufacture, and distribute a wide range of components and finished products that enhance comfort, motion, and style in the work and home furniture industry. From surface-critical bent tube assemblies and molded plywood components to chair mechanisms, bases, arms, seats, and backs, our Work Furniture Components business brings diverse world-class manufacturing capabilities together in the production and assembly of high-quality products. As a(n) Project Manager you will have the opportunity to be a part of the New Product Launch team. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by assisting Quality, Engineering, and Purchasing to plan, organize, and implement new products, product line enhancements, quality improvements, and cost projects.


So, what will you be doing as a(n) Project Manager?

  • Coordinate and participate in all activities required for a successful new product introduction – quoting, prototype builds, tooling, PPAP and quality requirements, ERP system setup, work instructions, preparation and hand-off from Development to Production.
  • Support all department managers in activities related to new product launches, including Sales, Engineering, Development, Quality, Purchasing, and Production.
  • Work directly with the management team regarding project schedules, budget, performance measures, support efforts, corrective actions, customer feedback, and issue identification to ensure project is on time and within budget
  • Organize cross-functional project team to develop and implement project plans which include resource allocation, project activity identification, and schedule development according to project requirements
  • Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems, to meet customer needs, cost targets, schedules, quality levels, and manufacturability requirements as they relate to the project
  • Develop and follow operating procedures and New Product Introduction processes to assure all requirements are met
  • 15% Regional Travel


To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in multiple areas of responsibility
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customer,s and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Knowledge of multiple manufacturing processes
  • Attention to detail – identifies, pays attention, to and works to understand details; thorough and consistent in following up at detail level; takes pride in knowledge base and level of expertise
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific, technical and professional documentation


Things we consider a plus:

  • Bachelor’s degree (4-year) in Business Administration, Marketing, or Engineering or equivalent experience
