Shift Utility Operator - 3rd Shift

We, at Leggett & Platt, Cape Girardeau, Mo. are searching for a Full-time Shift Utility Operator for our third shift to help support our flooring business. Leggett & Platt Inc. is the largest manufacturer of carpet cushion and solid surface underlayment in the United States. Our Flooring businesses manufacture and distribute foam, rubber, and fiber-based flooring underlayment for residential and commercial use. Our flooring underlayment products provide support, cushioning, and noise reduction under any finished flooring material in your home or business. Candidates must:

Have high school education, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

1 year of manufacturing and forklift experience preferred.

Ability to read and comprehend instruction, short correspondence, operating procedures, and memos. 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate and record forms.                                                                                                     

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Be committed to a high standard of Quality and Safety.

Have excellent attendance.

Ability to meet physical demands and successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Responsibilities could include:

Operates forklift to transport raw materials, as directed, to ensure an adequate supply is maintained for efficient operation of the mixing processes.

Operates forklift to transport finished product from the end of the production line to storage in the warehouse.

Records quantity of finished product placed in each bay and coordinates with windup operator and wrapper operator to reconcile total rolls stocked with total rolls produced.

Move bales of edge trim from collection area using forklift.

Move other miscellaneous supplies/raw materials required for the efficient operation of the plant.

Assists with backing splices, start-up/shut-down procedures, and with miscellaneous duties throughout the production line as directed.

Cleans up spills in the raw chemical storage area as directed, following approved procedures.

Changes propane tanks as needed.

Performs other duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient operation of the plant.

Safety

Must adhere to all safety regulations and wear all proper PPE.

Keep work area clean and free of safety hazards.

Inspects forklift prior to use.

Participates in Safeguard audits.

Quality Functions
Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformities related to product, process and/or the system.

Identify and/or record any problems relating to the product, process and the management system.

Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.

Verify the implementation of solutions.

Control further processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming products until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
