Leidos is looking for a Digital Forensics Technician on the ESA V program in Sterling, VA. ESA V is an IT Services program supporting several customers within the Department of Justice. The program provides a range of IT services, including help desk, deskside support, Windows workstation engineering and maintenance, managed print services, ITSM, Active Directory services, and video conferencing, among others.
Location: Government site in Sterling, VA - 5 days a week.
Regular telework is not authorized for this position.
One customer of the ESA V program is the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). ATF’s Digital Forensics Branch (DFB) provides investigative support to the ATF Field Divisions through the acquisition and analysis of digital devices to include computers, mobile devices, external storage, some network devices and Audio Visual recording devices.
The Digital Forensics Technician will work on site at the customer’s office to process digital evidence on various types of IT devices according to well documented government processes. This individual may have to testify in court about work products and evidence extracted. The successful candidate will also work with ATF agents in the field to ensure digital data is processed successfully and may also have to operate a government vehicle in support of contract requirements. The successful candidate will work directly under the oversight and guidance of DFB personnel and with several other contractor to perform the necessary services and will collaborate closely with the entire team.
The technician will be responsible for creating evidentiary and forensics reports which may be used in trials, for repairing damaged devices so data can be extracted, and may be called upon to testify in court as to the work done to extract data.
Candidate selected will be subject to a Government Public Trust security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to the customer’s information. Current clearance is not required, but selected individual cannot start the assignment until the required security clearance is granted by the customer. This process is currently taking 12 weeks (quicker for candidates who have current clearance).

Primary Responsibilities
- Receive IT equipment, generally iPhones, from field agents to be processed.
- Using provided toolsets, gain access to data on the devices.
- Repair broken devices as needed to facilitate data exfiltration.
- Extract information from SIM cards and SD cards.
- Load extracted data into an analysis tool, generate reports, and review the data.
- Generate forensic, evidentiary Reports of Investigation and store them in the customer’s Case Management System
- Testify on behalf of the government as necessary in trials.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors degree with 3 years of experience. High school diploma with an additional 7 years’ experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- US Citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to multitask and function in a quick-paced environment.
- IT Skills
- Past experience with ATF
- CompTIA A Certification
- Digital Forensics certifications, such as ISFCE CCE, IACIS CFCE, Cellebrite
- Experience providing IT support for law enforcement operations.
- Previous work with sensitive digital media, DVRs, computers, computer systems and mobile devices
- Past experience with Digital Forensics
