General Description of Duties
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
This position’s primary function is to operate zero turn mowers and small equipment in performing tasks associated with Roadway, Right-of-Way and Stormwater Maintenance and Construction projects within Leon County, thereby assisting the Division in meeting its Mission Statement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Performs unskilled and semi-skilled Tasks Associated With Roadway, Right-of-Way, and Stormwater Maintenance Activities. Such as chainsaws, vibroplate packers, blowers, weed eaters, push mowers, pavement saws, jack hammers, etc.
Mixes and lays riprap, sandbags, block and brick, in the construction of headwalls, retaining walls, and bridge embankments, etc. Performs rough carpentry work such as framing of concrete curbs, inlets, sidewalks, etc.
Cuts bushes and trees and removes sediment by hand as required to maintain drainage systems. Lays sod and seed and hay in ditches and on shoulders as needed for stabilization.
Other Related Duties as Required. Such as periodically subject to be placed on-call standby for emergencies and temporary assignments to various work crews to perform non-routine work tasks.
Other Equipment Operation. Operates various construction and farm equipment such as tractors, rollers, in the absence of normal operator and for special projects as required.Paperwork Completion. Completes bi-weekly timesheet recording hours worked, leave requests, etc. Completes vehicle accident reports and personal injury reports as required.
OTHER IMPORTANT OR MARGINAL DUTIES
All Leon County employees (regular, full-time, part-time, OPS and PRN) are required to work before, during and after a Declared State of Emergency (DLSOE). Participation is considered a condition of employment.
DIFFICULTY
The position adheres to established guidelines, policies, operating procedures, and must exercise care in operating equipment.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Supervision Received
This position's duties are fairly specific and checked frequently by supervisor. Guidance is sought from supervisor concerning equipment failures and accidents. Employee refers to established manuals and guidelines.
Supervision of Others
This position is non-supervisory.
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACT
Internal customer contact is made daily with coworkers and monthly scheduling repairs and procuring supplies with Fleet and Purchasing respectively. External customer contact is made with citizens who are adjacent to work sites to answer their questions or to direct them to appropriate contact.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
The employee may typically use equipment such as, but not limited to, car or light truck, crew cab, dump truck, low boy, farm tractor, chainsaws, vibrapackers, blowers, weed-eaters, mowers, pavement saws, and jack hammers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed outdoors. Work environmental factors typically include exposure to inclement weather conditions and various environmental factors, and exposure to insects and animals. Work requires extensive physical demands.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the use and care of hand tools. Knowledge of equipment safety. Knowledge of power tool operations and maintenance. Knowledge of components, parts, operating and maintenance requirements of the assigned equipment. Ability to operate zero turn mowers and small equipment Ability to deal courteously with the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a high school diploma or GED and 6 months of experience. Experience may substitute for diploma.
