LEPRA Society is an organisation working for people affected by Leprosy, lymphatic filariasis, TB, HIV/AIDS & other NTDs, Eye Care and governed by a board comprising of distinguished individuals from across India.
LEPRA Society-BPHRC is a DSIR-SIRO recognized public health and research center with a specialized facility for services and research in leprosy, TB, and LF. The center has a laboratory research division with state-of-the-art facility for mycobacteriology laboratory including culture, molecular diagnostics etc. The center is recognized by MoHFW, GoI as referral facility for antimicrobial resistance in TB and leprosy and works closely with the field programmes across LEPRA’s operational states in India. The laboratory research division conducts applied and operational research of multidisciplinary nature in the identified thematic areas of strategic importance, such as innovative diagnostics, pathogenesis, antimicrobial resistance in collaboration with universities, research institutes and other NGOs conducting
Brief about Project: Comparative assessment of quantitative nasal swab PCR and blood transcriptomics in early prediction of progression to clinical leprosy in healthy household contacts of leprosy patients (Funded by the ICMR for the duration of July 2023- June 2026).
The position is for immediate engagement on consultant and a project tenure based.
Location: LEPRA society-BPHRC, Cherlapally ,Hyderabad
What you would do
Roles and responsibilities:
Technical: Overall project assistance in laboratory work like preparing the laboratory for the research project, assisting in purchases of reagents, kits etc, performing lab experiments like microbiological processing(staining, culture etc.), molecular biology -DNA extraction, PCR, RTPCR and microbial sequencing . Desirable to have experience in bioinformatics.
Area of Expertise: Sample processing AFB and Gram’s staining, bacterial inoculation and identification, AS, Microbiome analysis, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RTPCR.
Documentation/scientific writing/communication skills: Development of technical materials, data entry and data consolidation under the project. Documenting and reporting of the project reports, most significant changes in the project. Preparation of power point presentations for the project reporting and manuscripts for publication. Preference will be given to those who had demonstrated documentation and scientific communication skills through previous projects experience, publications etc.

Requirements:
Total: 2 years Relevant: 1 year
Education qualification required: Full time Masters degree in Microbiology/ Biotechnology / relevant subjects from recognized university
Skills required:
Primary : Good laboratory practices, Sample handling, Experience in microbiology techniques like staining, culture inoculation, identification and other biochemical tests. Experience in molecular techniques like DNA/RNA extraction, PCR and Data analysis.
Secondary Good communication skills in English, excellent computer knowledge, data entry, analysis, storage and excellent technical writing skills (required-Microsoft excel and PowerPoint and desirable: SPSS or other statistical tools.
Remuneration: Rs. 31,000/- per month
