Position Summary
The Class C Fitter is responsible for layouts and assembly of fabricated parts, according to shop drawings. This position is deemed ‘safety sensitive’ due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee’s co-workers, and/or the public at large.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lay out, position, align, and fit together fabricated parts of structural metal products in the shop, according to blueprint and layout specifications, preparatory to welding or riveting.
- Locate and mark centerline and reference points onto floor or face block and transpose them to workpiece.
- Move parts into position, manually or by hoist or crane. Align parts and make ready for final assembly.
- Responsible for adhering to all company safety and OSHA requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- The ability to work overtime and regular, punctual attendance is required.
Qualifications
High School education or equivalent with a certificate from a Technical or Trade School. Must be able to fit most structural steel including beams, columns, braces, and simple frames. Must have ability to fabricate any item. Must have ability to pass Class B welding test, which may include 1G FCAW, 3G FCAW, 4G FCAW, 1G SMAW, 3G SMAW, 4G SMAW, and 1G SAW.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift in excess of 100 pounds frequently. Requires excessive bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing and bending. Exposure to temperature fluctuations and noisy work environment. Considerable amounts of overtime and weekend work required. All of the physical demands listed are essential functions.
