What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at LHE?
Experience in Manufacturing and Project Management and AIA billing is a must.
We are looking for an experienced controller to oversee general accounting operations . Responsibilities include general accounting tasks such as reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, etc... in addition the successful candidate must have fluent knowledge of Management Accounting, financial analysis, forecasting, etc... must combine excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has experience collaborating with senior staff and managing daily office operations. Duties include ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of our accounting tasks.
Additional responsibilities include HR management. the candidate is responsible for HR duties for a small business, including managing the health plan, 401K plan, various employee HR issues, and conformance with state and federal regulations.
Additional responsibilities includes managing the Work In Process and providing progress payment analysis on a monthly basis.
The right candidate must be able to work alone and run the full accounting and HR departments for a small business.
Responsibilities
- Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
- Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
- Provide technical support and advice
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process
- Provide input into department’s goal setting process
- Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
- Assist with tax audits and tax returns
- Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Plan, assign and review staff’s work
- Support month-end and year-end close process
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
- manage company HR, including health plan, 401K plan, general employee HR issues and needs, etc...
- experience with WIP principles, including earnings allocations is a MUST
- Providing leadership, direction and management of the finance and accounting team
- Providing strategic recommendations to the CEO
- Managing the processes for financial forecasting and budgets, and overseeing the preparation of all financial reporting
- Advising on long-term business and financial planning
- Reviewing all formal finance, HR and IT related procedures
Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years of work experience in an accounting related field.
- The ability to adapt to different cultures/ office environments
- minimum of 3 years as a controller in a manufacturing/Project Management field
- Ability to do repetitive tasks with accuracy and consistency.
- Experience in construction work-in-process and job cost accounting is required with AIA billing experience a must.
- Knowledge and proficiency with QuickBooks is required.
- A high degree of computer literacy using MS Office products (Excel, Word, and Outlook)
- Familiar with using and working with integrated software systems
- Strong organizational skills, conscientious and detail oriented.
- Ability to perform collections effectively.
- ability to tie all business functions from sales to production into a clear path easy to follow

Skills
- experience with AIA accounting is a MUST
- Proven experience as a financial controller, accounting supervisor, chief or senior accountant
- In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks
- Advanced MS Office skills especially Excel
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
- Relevant certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) will be preferred
