Safety Manager Role: The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety policies and procedures to ensure a secure working environment for all employees across multiple branches (Lake Bluff, Chicago, Milwaukee). This role involves setting measurable safety goals and objectives comparable to profitability, quality, and productivity metrics. Responsibilities include identifying and mitigating potential hazards, conducting safety training programs, managing accident investigations and follow-ups, and fostering a culture of safety awareness.

Responsibilities:
- Formulate, update, and implement safety policies and procedures compliant with organizational and regulatory guidelines.
- Establish and manage an annual safety budget.
- Review and enhance safety protocols regularly to address emerging risks.
- Conduct safety training sessions, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and emphasizing best practices.
- Provide ongoing education on new safety standards and procedures.
- Establish effective communication channels for safety-related information across departments.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness through regular communication and campaigns.
- Lead worker compensation initiatives, including accident investigations and near-miss evaluations, documenting findings and recommending preventive measures.
- Track and analyze worker’s compensation claims and OSHA recordables, preparing performance reports for management review.
- Aim for specific reductions in the percentage, number, or cost of worker’s compensation claims and experience modification rate (EMR).
- Develop and manage a comprehensive return-to-work program to facilitate the safe return of injured employees to productive work activities.
- Collaborate with HR, medical providers, and insurers to coordinate accommodations and support services for injured employees during inspections, citations, and audits.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incidents.
- Develop and maintain incident reporting systems.
- Stay informed about changes in safety regulations, ensuring company-wide compliance.
- Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures, conducting drills and training exercises for various emergency scenarios.
- Regularly inspect work areas to identify potential hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to implement corrective measures and accident prevention strategies.
- Conduct job hazard analysis for all applicable positions within the company.
- Responsible for daily driving in a company vehicle to branch locations and job sites.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Proven experience as a Safety Manager, preferably in landscaping, construction, or a related industry.
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, ASP) is advantageous.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations, best practices, and workers’ compensation laws.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; bilingual proficiency preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Valid local driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must pass post-offer and periodic drug screenings per DOT guidelines.
- Minimum age requirement of 21 years.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
