Company and Position Description:
Liatris Inc. is developing a cutting-edge building insulation technology utilizing primarily inorganic nano-composite materials which aims to combine the high fire and temperature tolerance of mineral wool with the cost vs. performance profile of existing foam insulation products (e.g., EPS, XPS). The Company recently raised a seed financing round and won a highly competitive BENEFIT award from the US Department of Energy. We are growing our team in our new Rockville, MD R&D lab and seeking a motivated R&D Chemist to help accelerate product development. This requires that the candidate is knowledgeable in polymers and materials science, able to conduct organized research and utilize laboratory equipment to create new materials and processes which will be scaled up into future production. This person needs to be able to effectively communicate their knowledge, and new findings with the internal team and external stakeholders. This position will report directly to the R&D Director.
Responsibilities
- Hands-on involvement in chemistry work relating to synthesis and sample preparation techniques for composite materials utilizing polymers, nano materials, and other organic/inorganic materials.
- Development and execution of new experimental approaches and methods utilizing scientific literature and team guidance.
- Demonstrate process improvements using appropriate data analysis and statistical tools
- Generate technical reports and white papers for internal and external reviews.
- Participate in cross-functional product and technical meetings with other key research and business personnel.
Qualifications
- Ideal candidates should have experience in polymers and materials science or other closely related fields with a Bachelor, Master, or Ph.D. degrees in the area of Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, (or other related technical discipline). Candidates with other relevant industry experience may be considered.
- Candidates with hands-on experience in the area of organic synthesis, nano materials, light-weight composites, and/or thermal insulation materials are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Experience with common analytical laboratory equipment including but not limited to the following: Rheometer, TGA, DSC, Microscope, etc.
- Strong interest in commercial product development.
- Fluent in Microsoft Office programs such Excel, Word, etc.
