We are looking for a talented private chef to work four days a week at a family home in the Hamptons with possible required travel to Manhattan to cook there. This position will run from the beginning of August through to a date to be agreed in September. There is scope for extending the engagement and for travel with the client.
Duties will include preparation and cooking healthy meals, using vegetables and other thoughtfully-curated ingredients from our local producers.
You will be expected to be presentable at all times, assist the client with hosting of small dinners and events and may be required to manage other household staff or kitchen staff if so required.
Since you will be working in a private home, good communication skills are essential in order to make this position work. You should have experience working in commercial and private environments and must be able to demonstrate a speculative menu for the homeowner and provide examples of previous dishes served.
While this is a well-defined role, you may be asked to assist other household staff in reasonable duties unrelated to your position.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and oversee the preparation and cooking of all dishes for a menu co-designed with the client.
- Supervise, train and coordinate the work of other household staff.
- Ensure the quality of food and kitchen hygiene standards, as well as adherence to hygiene practices (e.g. food handling, temperature etc.).
- Follow up with suppliers to ensure quality of perishable food items.
- Source ingredients to prepare dishes in accordance with budget.
- Record order and inventory levels and monitor their consumption.
- Co-ordinate with other staff to ensure proper stock levels are maintained.
- Ensure the proper use of equipment (blenders, mixers etc.).
- Manage day-to-day kitchen operations and handle any crisis situations (e.g. fire outbreak etc.).
- Manage catering services in coordination with other staff.
- Manage all kitchen costs (purchases, payroll etc.).

Pay: $800.00 - $1,000.00 per week
