Purpose

Ensure that the Energy Supply Wind Department provides safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally responsible sources of power for the Southwest Power Pool, which will maximize shareholder return on their investment and minimize direct impact to Liberty's bottom line. The Energy Supply - Wind Department currently consists of three wind farms - one 301 MW wind farm, two 149.4 MW wind farms, and a 2.25 MW solar facility. It also has a plant services group which assists other generation facilities and maintains the Asbury site. Additional renewable energy facilities are anticipated to be added to this department in the future.

This position will support the operation and maintenance of existing and future renewable energy facilities by providing knowledge of all aspects of wind farm, solar farm, and substation operation, maintenance, and construction, and will be leading tasks and projects without direct supervision. This person in this rule may receive guidance from other members of management, but will mostly set own objectives and goals as well as being a self-starter, have the ability to self-direct and self-motivate, and perform duties with minimal support. This position may manage projects within the wind farms, solar farm, or plant services group. This position may interact with future project teams during construction of new facilities to provide technical assistance, and to learn about the facilities to assist in the development of operations / maintenance procedures. This position must be capable of walking in rural terrain, climbing stairs and ladders, ability to climb through and inspect equipment, work long and varying hours, wear personal protective equipment, drive to and from wind turbine sites.

Accountabilities

  • Support and lead efforts in driving toward Liberty's Triple Zero target by leading and participating in plant safety meetings and developing and teaching safety plans and processes.
  • Perform safety observations to ensure that safety plans and processes are followed.
  • Develop advanced understanding of wind farm / substation operations / maintenance. Provide technical assistance to wind farm site managers to troubleshoot and resolve substation controls and operations / maintenance issues, as well as communications issues with wind turbines, substation, and operations center. Work with substation / relay department as needed to resolve controls issues.
  • Assist Site Managers with reporting requirements and to analyze wind turbine performance using various software packages.
  • Manage windfarm substation / balance of plant construction projects
  • Develop advanced understanding of solar farm inverter and control systems to provide guidance / develop operations and maintenance procedures for current and future solar facilities.
  • Take lead role in resolving telecom issues at solar farms
  • Interact w/ substation department to facilitate maintenance / resolve issues
  • Develop, implement, and manage projects at wind farms, solar farm(s), or plant services group. This includes developing work packages and bid documents, schedules, getting and evaluating bids, awarding contracts, and managing all aspects of contracts, including budget and schedule.
  • Provide leadership in the development of capital and O&M budgets
  • Assist Liberty Utilities project team in management of construction of future renewable generation facilities

Education and Experience

  • Broad Job Knowledge - Broader knowledge of theory and principles within a professional discipline or advanced knowledge of specific technical/operational practices.
  • Bachelor of Science – Electrical Engineering
  • Telecommunications experience preferred
  • Controls experience preferred
