Job Summary:
A Medical Laboratory Technician performs laboratory procedures according to established and approved protocols, which require the limited exercise of independent judgment and interpretation. Procedures are performed in the hematology, Immunohematalogy, immunology, urinalysis, chemistry, and microbiology areas, including collection of specimens where required. Electrocardiograms are also performed. These tests are performed under the supervision of a technologist, supervisor, or laboratory department director.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities:
Follows established procedures for collection and processing biological specimens for analysis.
Performs assigned analytical tests or procedures that require limited independent judgment.
Recognizes factors that affect measurement and results and take appropriate action according to predetermined protocols.
Recognizes abnormal results and refer them to a technologist or to the appropriate personnel according to the critical limit notification policy.
Operates instruments within the scope of training, utilizing established protocols and quality control checks.
Recognizes equipment malfunctions and notify a technologist.
Communicates information such as test results, reference ranges and specimen requirements to appropriate staff.
Performs routine quality control and maintain accurate records.
Demonstrates laboratory technical skills to new employees and students.
Attends laboratory and/or organizational meetings and in-services to allow for effective communication and training.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physiological, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to neonates, infants, toddlers, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Knowledge to provide such care is gained through education, training and experience.
