At Lifehouse we focus on helping each person we support have the opportunity to lead a full life in our community. Our Controller helps to support our mission through overseeing Lifehouse and its related companies’ financial operations, accounting practices, fiscal records and financial report preparation. This is a hands-on position responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial information. This role is located on site in our San Rafael office.
What you will be doing:
Manage Financial Operations
- Manage the day to day accounting operations including accounts payable and receivables, payroll, general ledger and fixed assets as well as financial reporting and analysis in accordance with GAAP, applicable laws and regulations and internal policies and procedures.
- Directly supervise accounting staff.
- Supervise payroll procedures and processing for approximately 500 employees.
- In collaboration with program management, maintain the purchase of service agreements and related schedules. Prepare monthly billings to Regional Centers and other funding agencies.
- Manage cash flow.
Reporting & Analysis
- Produce accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external reporting. Analyze variances and update forecasts.
- Ensure annual, quarterly and periodic national, state and local filings are completed.

What you will bring
- Minimum 6 years of experience in accounting for a complex business, preferably nonprofit.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or finance required.
- Clear understanding of accounting principles, job costing, cost allocation procedures and internal controls.
- Highly organized and able to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities. Reliable, excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven leadership skills and ability to coach and develop accounting team members.
- Demonstrated success working collaboratively within the team and across the organization.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of personal and professional integrity. Trustworthy, discrete and respectful in the handling of confidential or sensitive information and matters.
- Experience with time-based billing systems and job costing preferred.
- Ability to pass background checks.
