LifeMoves | Mountain View Shelter is dedicated to providing stabilization shelter and services for homeless individuals and families in San Jose. We provide opportunities that build brighter futures for the next generation.
LifeMoves will provide support services that support self-sufficiency (e.g. financial workshops, resume building, nutrition, and conflict resolution) to participants with the goal of securing permanent housing for the participants. We provide opportunities that build brighter futures for the next generation. Under the supervision of the Program Director, Case Managers act as strong supports and advocates for clients, with the ultimate goal of helping them attain stable housing and self-sufficiency. Their responsibilities include developing and implementing individual case plans for a caseload of clients, as well as assisting the Program Director to maintain the facilities and develop program services.
Position Summaries:
The Program Aide is responsible for ensuring the facility and community spaces are well kept and functioning. The Program Aide is also responsible for administrative tasks that contribute to facility operations. The successful candidate should exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with other staff, clients, donors, and partnering agencies and always with sensitivity to the needs of the homeless population.
Primary Duties:
- Greet donors and volunteers and assist them with their needs.
- Assist with organizations of supplies and donations.
- Answer phones and provide assistance to callers.
- Be available to welcome new program participants, complete intakes and supervise move-ins and move-outs.
- Order and maintain inventory of supplies for site including supplies and maintenance items.
- Monitor client activities within the shelter; maintain a safe and supportive atmosphere; ensure client adherence to program rules, especially regarding clean and sober behavior.
- Perform and/or monitor all site maintenance duties as required in order to provide a safe, clean, and functional environment.
- Complete projects to improve facility beautification and upkeep.
- Order and maintain organized storage of all operational supplies and related inventory documentation for site in a timely manner. This includes, but is not limited to, Food Bank, janitorial and maintenance supplies as well as donations.
- Complete administrative tasks that include the use of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ensure that weekly company vehicle maintenance checks are completed, documented, and vehicle safety and cleanliness are a priority.
- Respond to crisis in a calm manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience working with at-risk populations and understanding of the issues faced by disenfranchised populations
- Experience with the homeless population, mental health, substance abuse, and other disabilities strongly preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; proven ability to collaborate with other agencies
- Conflict resolution, group facilitation and relate well with others
- Strong work ethic; comfortable working independently, keen attention to detail and highly organized
- Automobile and valid driver’s license required
- Bachelor’s degree in social services or similar is strongly preferred
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, ideas and practices that promote diversity, equity and inclusion
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
