What are the responsibilities and job description for the ED Registrar SHD position at LifePoint Hospitals?
Performs receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with Emergency Department patients. Greets patients, obtains demographic and financial information, obtains necessary signatures and collects payment from patient. Assists in all phases of the registration processes.
Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.
Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.
Meets with patient or patient's caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation.
Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.
Communicates with admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement.
Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary.
Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up.
Calculates patient financial obligation and obtain and verifies the accuracy of authorization when required.
Abides by EMTALA regulations, completes registration functions in collaboration with applicable rules and regulations. Able to capture applicable information in a potentially stressful environment and collection of monies at the patient's bedside.

In addition to the Emergency Department Patient Access functions, ED Registrars must be cross trained on all areas of the Patient Access Department. All after hours, weekends and holiday patient access functions are routed to the Emergency Department Registration Team to complete. All other area functions include but are not limited to: Outpatient & Surgical Registrations, Financial Counseling, Cashier Functions, Medical Outpatients and Direct Admissions (Medical, Psychiatry, and Inpatient Rehab.)
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including week-ends and holidays to insure appropriateness and continuity of care for the patients of Sovah Health Danville on all units.
Minimum Work Experience
Two (2) years of experience working with the public preferred
Knowledge of collection policy and previous experience with insurance preferred
