What are the responsibilities and job description for the Apheresis Tech I position at LifeShare Blood Center?
LifeShare is seeking a dependable Phlebotomist to join our team of blood collection specialists at our local donor center. Providing excellent customer service and following established safety and quality guidelines, the phlebotomist will perform apheresis collection procedures to draw selected blood components from various donor categories. They will also provide information to guide prospective donors through the donation process and provide post-venipuncture care. By creating a positive donor experience, the phlebotomist will help cultivate a pool of return donors and ensure a safe blood supply is available to our community during times of need.
Reporting to the Apheresis Supervisor, the phlebotomist utilizes apheresis technique to satisfactorily draw selected blood components from a donor. This includes obtaining demographic information and medical history, performing mini-physical examination, venipunctures and observing for donor reactions. They will create a welcoming environment for potential blood donors and deliver professional, high-quality customer service. The ideal candidate is dependable, punctual and has effective communication skills; demonstrates a positive approach toward donors and other team members; and has a passion for service to our community. The phlebotomist will work collaboratively as a member of the blood collection team, integrating LifeShare’s mission and values into daily decisions, behaviors and actions.

Beginning rate of pay is $12.73. LifeShare provides a 90-day on the job training program and other skill development opportunities; upon successful completion, rate of pay is increased. Work Environment/Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one (1) year of phlebotomy experience
- Completion of a recognized phlebotomy certificate program
- Frequent potential exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products
- Requires long periods of standing, bending and stooping
- Ability to lift apheresis equipment and supplies up to 35 lbs
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Ability to read and use a computer to enter and retrieve donor data
