Lincoln Creek Lumber is a family-owned company that has served the communities of Lewis & Thurston Counties for over 100 years.
We are currently seeking a Sales Associate/Sales Floor Trainer to join our Tumwater team. You may be asked to cross-train as a cashier which would involve accurately processing customer purchases and returns, and balancing your till.
Sales Associate responsibilities:
- Follow all written company policies.
- Wear a radio so that the team can effectively communicate.
- Greet each customer with a smile by asking them, What can I help you find today?
- Work to understand your customer’s projects and show true knowledge of our products to help them find the best solutions. (If you do not know the answer to a question, don’t fake it. Ask another team member for their expert knowledge and use the opportunity to learn.)
- Engage with customers by leading them to the products they are interested in rather than pointing in a general direction.
- Be empathetic and respectful when hearing a customer complaint. Call a manager if you are unable to positively resolve the problem. Document any complaint that needs follow-up by management.
- Offer to load heavy items into customer vehicles.
- Complete and turn in paperwork for online orders and orders made in-store.
- Cross-train as a cashier so that you can provide backup during busy periods.
- Maintain your assigned aisles:
- Sweep floors
- Dust shelves
- Face products
- Stock shelves
- Put away new products and organize back stock when freight arrives.
- Know each month’s ads and direct customers to specials.
- Always be aware and notify management if there are any security issues.
- Attend monthly store meetings.
- Understand and observe all safety procedures. Make recommendations to improve safety practices.
Salesfloor Trainer Responsibilities:
- Conduct training sessions for new sales associates covering the following areas: customer service, product features, sales techniques, and operational procedures.
- Model effective sales techniques and customer interaction strategies for trainees.
- Deliver comprehensive product knowledge sessions to familiarize new associates with our products' features, benefits, and specifications.
- Guide new hires through the sales process, from greeting customers to closing sales, emphasizing key steps and best practices.
- Instruct new associates on providing excellent customer service, this includes addressing inquiries and courteously and professionally resolving complaints.
- Familiarize new hires with the layout of the sales floor, including the location of merchandise, departments, and bathrooms, to help them better assist customers.
- Provide on-the-job coaching and support to new hires as they interact with customers and perform their job duties, offering guidance and reinforcement in real-time situations.
- Maintain associate training records and provide reports to management.
- Get feedback from store managers on associate needs and training schedules.
- Identify training needs for new and existing staff.
- Instruct associates on how to use Ace Learning Place and outside training sites.
- Outstanding customer service
- Previous experience in sales, preferably in a retail setting
- Able to train and coach new sales associates effectively
- Previous cashier experience preferred
- Willingness to listen to others
- Excellent math and computer skills
- Knowledge of POS systems
- Phone etiquette
- Product knowledge or eagerness to learn on the job
- Team player
- Clear communication with customers, peers, and management
- Solid organization skills and attention to detail
- Punctual attendance of shifts
- Available to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Bilingual (Spanish) verbal and written strongly desired

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
