The Role at a Glance
As a Director of Accounting Policy, you will research and analyze business transactions and related structures and provide technical accounting guidance to senior business executives across LFG. This position provides an opportunity to be at the forefront of accounting policy change and operate as part of a dynamic team in a challenging environment. In this role you will ensure company-wide accounting policies are up-to-date and compliant with existing and newly approved accounting standards and regulations. In addition, you will be responsible for the proper documentation and maintenance of LFGs accounting policies and procedures. You will also act as a resource to applicable internal/external stakeholders regarding technical accounting policy and compliance issues. This role has direct exposure to key decision makers throughout the organization and is an excellent role for those transition out of public accounting.
What you'll be doing
- Consults / analyze on more complex technical accounting matters for assigned area(s) of responsibility, ensuring proper application of accounting standards, and working with internal and external (e.g. auditors) stakeholders to address and enforce policy compliance.
- Maintains accounting policies for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Champions and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives.
- Serves as a resource to team members and applicable internal/external stakeholders on more complex technical accounting policy and compliance issues for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Maintains knowledge on current and emerging accounting standards, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to ensure proper application of accounting standards.
- Prepares and reviews accounting policies for more complex accounting transactions and ensures compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles.
- Oversees and reviews new disclosures for the 10K and 10Q. Ensures accuracy and completeness of financial statement footnotes for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Identifies accounting issues/concerns and recommends mitigation solution(s) to management.
- Communicates new and emerging technical accounting policy developments and related regulatory developments to managers and executives throughout LFG.
- Provides input to preparation of comment letters on proposed accounting guidance to Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as needed, on behalf of LFG.
- Provides technical accounting support on M&A activities and strategic initiatives by identifying any accounting issues during due diligence process and developing/integrating technical accounting policies for acquired companies, as needed.
- Identifies and resolves more complex issues with internal and/or external auditors in a collaborative manner.
- Obtains input from appropriate management before making external statements or providing information that could impact the corporation.
- Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines. Complies with all company and site policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required.
What we're looking for
Must-haves:
- 5 - 7 years of experience in accounting that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position.
- 4 Year/Bachelor's degree, concentration in accounting preferred or equivalent work experience.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Understanding and knowledge of state and federal accounting laws, including Statutory Accounting Principles, US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), Sarbanes-Oxley provisions, SEC regulations, and compliance requirements of other statutes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies, proposals, and standard operating procedures.
Nice-to-haves:
- External audit experience or experience within accounting policy in the financial services/life insurance industry is preferred.

Pay Range: $87,700 - $159,900
Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln's total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln's standard benefits package.
