General Purpose of Job
This position will analyze and deliver on Underwriting assignments/projects. They are responsible for underwriting life insurance applications within their designated approval limit of up to $1,500,000 and up to age 70. They evaluate and assess risk to determine whether to accept an insurance application and determine the appropriate coverage/risk.
Duties and Responsibilities
Analyzes problems and makes decisions in a timely manner.
Applies and maintains knowledge on the basic fundamentals of life insurance principles including anti-selection, over-insurance, products, legal fundamentals and state and federal regulations pertinent to underwriting.
Collaborates effectively with stakeholders to gather information necessary for decision making and to select profitable risks.
Communicates effectively and frequently by telephone or written correspondence with internal and external customers to facilitate placement of business.
Determines whether to accept, modify, or decline a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazard, and financial background.
Evaluates and underwrites life insurance applications making determinations of the terms, coverage, and rating classification within their designated approval limit up to $1,500,000 and up to age 70.
Identifies and communicates to management process improvements that reduce workloads or improve quality for their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
Maintains knowledge on current and emerging developments/trends for assigned area(s) of responsibility, assesses the impact, and collaborates with management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions.
Performs and delivers on routine assignments/projects while simultaneously leveraging and applying knowledge of their assigned area(s) of responsibility.
Promotes and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility.
Provides training to less experienced team members on underwriting procedures and guidelines.
Represents the company by attending agency visits and developing relationships with agents, case managers and sales partners.
Works on assigned projects.
Education
4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) - Minimum Required
Experience
1 - 3 Years of individual life underwriting experience that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities of the position (Required )
